GP2X port of Led Blur GP32 demo is out!

It's based on the PC port which was using an SDL wrapper of GP32 functions and videoram. This slowed things quite much at first, however for the GP2X port I've tried to specifically optimize the main function that converts the GP32 gfx format to the GP2X vram and enough speed has been gained. In 250Mhz I get now almost double speed from the GP32 demo at 133Mhz. Well, if the effects were rewritten natively for the GP2X speed could be much faster, but this is just a fast port and I leave this as an exercise for my incoming pure GP2X demo :)

Enjoy!

Great work :)

Reminds me of a few Amiga demos, the music especially reminds me of Enigma by Phenomena

Yey, it brought the Enigma music in my mind the first time I've been listening to it. Maybe that's because some of it's samples are really taken from the Enigma mod as stated in the sample comments :)
Several months ago when I was making my plans about this demo, because of the music I was inspired of maybe building a 3d flyby scene similar to the Enigma demo but with gouraud shading and better objects but this never occured because of laziness or any other reason ;P Heh,. I am gonna watch the Enigma demo once again this night to remember it's music ;)

Lacey Chabert? Me Likey.

I thought that was a sweet sweet demo. I see you have it running just fine, didn't read the readme yet but what framerate is this? I assume you still haven't fully tweaked or optimised for the MMSP2 yet, but only because the hardware itself is a bit strange and unkown at the moment.

How are you writing to the screen? Does any of this get impacted by the MMU hack? Would it be possible or desireable to implement the hack?

If you press B, you will get a frame counter. The same happens with the GP32 version.

No use of GP2X special hardware capabilities for this port. It was a fast port and so I didn't care much..
I really wish to try the MMU hack or use the second processor for my 3d engine to see the speed diferrences. Haven't done it yet, maybe in my next demo or 3d engine release..

I just tried this. It is really cool. Vector BOBs, plasma, etc just like the old Amiga. It really does remind me of the old demo days.

If this is just a quick port imagine the demos if the special hardware is used. Hopefully there will be a GP2X demoscene too.

Redsector, Scoopex megademos ahh the old days...

Thanks for porting this.

Very cool demo :) the face looks awesome and so do most of the other effects!!!

this is too rad, i love the hardliner's music (i met him when i went to zurich last year, we played a radio broadcast together)!

great collection of effects, i especially enjoyed the fractal roto zoomer :)

my only critisism would be the colors and a few rough transitions, lack of design/theme. maybe another hand in the art department would have helped

edit can't wait to see what you come up w/ for the deadline in august B)

Very nice demo! The guard shaded face plus plasma background was great!! My only complaint is it could be longer... but it's great anyway.

It's showing that even without any hardware tricks excellent results can be achieved.
