Basically at the moment I'm loving this kind of music, but the problem is I only have a few albums:
Genesis - Foxtrot
Yes - Close the Edge
- Fragile

and those best of pink floyd albums I robbed off my Dad, help me find more good stuff

thanks

It's a tricky thing music.

One man's meat is another man's poison, you've just got to see what you like, and what works for you. I would suggest various works by:

Caravan
Tangerene Dream
King Crimson
Yes
Jethro Tull

....as a good stating point

There is a lot of self indulgent rubbish out there too so be aware:

Starting points I suppose could also include the obvious wiki entry, and the various resources google throws up:

Progarchives

ProgRock radio....

My favourite prog rock band is the 'self-indulgent' (but insanely talented and creative) Dream Theater, but I suspect they're not quite up your alley. And I already told you to get Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe and some of Wakeman's solo stuff.

The Flower Kings
The Tangent
King Crimson
Radiohead
Roxy Music
Tool
Muse
The Mars Volta
Transatlantic
etc etc

Some I like, some I don't.

Definitely give Roxy Music's self titled album a try though.

Radiohead eh? Never quite thought of them as progressive, but..
And U2? Progressive? Uuuuhh.... whhhhhhaat?

Kayo Dot is good if you want to go really nuts with musical influences
Liquid Tension Experiment (Dream Theater without James LaBrie)
Ayreon is a favorite of mine
Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater keyboardist)
Left Coast (shameless plug :p )
Spock's Beard is really good
Under The Sun
Ark (there's another Ark from the Sweden, and although funny, they're not progressive)
Derek Sherinian (Old Dream Theater keyboardist I think)
Kansas

Those are probably the closest to the ones you mentioned as far as being on the lighter side of progressive stuff. If you're into heavier stuff, I know plenty of that too :p

I used to be into prog and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway by Genesis was my favourate then, and it is also the only one I could bring myself to listen to nowadays.

iron maiden?
alot of people into pink floyd and deep purple like iron maiden

Definitely give led zeppelin a try.

DEEP PURPLE!!!

how the hell has nobody mentioned Deep Purple? they're just pure awesome prog rock!!
I was going to, but I figured they're more hard rock. A great band none the less.

Yes, they're both prog rock. How are they not?

Very good band.

Radiohead I'll go along with, but U2?? I would consider them rock/pop rock. Have you ever tried to PLAY one of their songs? They take like 3 minutes to learn... less than the songs themselves. Unless there's some period in U2's history that I'm missing here...

On to that list:
Coheed & Cambria
The Mars Volta (deserves mentioning again)
Death (maybe not that progressive, but really good anyways)
Opeth
Pain Of Salvation (did I say that already?)

Er... I seem to be missing some.. strange...
Also make sure to check out those internet radio stations mentioned

Not sure if these guys will interest you, as they are more "just" guitar virtuosos that like to incorporate prog elements from time to time:
Yngwie Malmsteen
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani

Wow... glad to see so many people like Rush as much as I do! <3

A style of music's definition generally has nothing to do with how difficult the music is. U2 is clearly progressive rock; they are a rock band, but also progress to other styles of music that are not straight, simple rock. It doesn't matter if you like them or not, either. In fact, Radiohead is much more on the border of being prog rock than U2 is. A genre is indiscriminatory.

All the bands you've listed have very little in common with a band like U2 or common definitions of prog rock in general. A number of them are Black/Death/Heavy Metal and barely even rock. The most notable exception, though, is Coheed and Cambria -- a very good, new, progressive rock band. Though some of their stuff from the days Shabutie is awkward and poor, Good Apollo has some excellent tracks on it ;)
