does anyone know what difference the new screens make and if its quite a lot have the early adopters been scr***d?

It's different rather than better it seems.

Some people say it's better, some say it's worse.

Craig, who's seen more gp2xs than anyone else said at first he thought it was worse, then he got used to it and now he quite likes it.

I have a first edition unit and the screen is brilliant, better than any other device I've used. Your milage may vary.

The simple difference is that the new screens no longer have scanlines but have worst viewing angles and a high brightness causing the colours to be washed out.

Personally I quite like the scanlines.. :/

I have a first gen GP2x and I by no means feel "screwed".
We knew what we were getting when we bought it.
Plus, I have had over 4 months of great fun with my GP2x already, so it has been worth it.

You need to look around and learn that every product changes.
If you are going to be mad that a product you bought has been upgraded, then you are going to have a very sad life.

This is a non issue. Upgrades come with every product. Learn to live with it.

I'm not annoyed.
When I... If break my GP2X I can get a new, "better" one. :)

"Deary me, what has my... brother done?"

I don't have scanlines on my first edition unit.

You do, just be glad you are blessed with poor eyes. :p

I don't mind the screen change as much as I mind the joystick rotation change.

Bah, I refuse to accept that I have poor eyes, I merely have precise eyes. My optical system runs at a steady 60Hz and supports wait for vsync :p

When playing games or watching video I don't even notice the scanlines. I love the screen.
