Well so many people have been asking for it and i've had some spare time while TTX waits for media that I thought I would give it a go.

http://www.melted.com/spectural/storage/sw...WarriorGP2X.rar

super early beta thing. no sound yet and due to dodgey input its barely playable (forward really hates registering and its possiable to make yourself spin on the spot :/). But it runs and goes in game and prooves im not talking out my bottom :)

Its based off JunoF's JFBuild engine. I hoped to have it much more playable before i went to bed (a challenge from woogal.. hah! told you I would have it "going" before I slept :D) but ran into a couple of slow-me-downs and its now 6:20am and im tired xD As i'm tired and I cant be arsed to explain everything, heres the readme file because im sure half of you dont even bother to read them in the archive ;)

hopfully nicer progress tomorrow *falls into bed*

readme.txt:

Shadow Warrior GP2X

This is my port of the JF-Build and JF-Shadow Warrior engines written by JunoF.

This is a VERY early pre-release, alpha, proof of concept, whateveryouwannacallit demo. Its barely playable thanks to dodgey input (half and half my fault and the gp2x's stick) and it has no sound. But it DOES load and you can happily browse through the menu and start the game and even play it to an extent. But I imagine the controls will frustrate you before you get anywhere in the game ;)

Anyway, extract this archive if you havnt already to a folder on your SD card - it should be fine anywhere on the card but I have been testing it in a folder called sw on the root of my card. Then, if you havn't already, install your official copy of shadow warrior on to your pc like normal (should work with the shareware demo too, not tested) and simply copy SW.GRP to the same folder.

Put the SD in your gp2x, boot, goto the games menu and then execute Shadow Warrior.gpe.

Once in, use joystick to navigate (WARNING: its sensitive! will fix in the next "proper" release), B button to select a menu option and X to go back (both buttons also sensitive, sorry). Goto the keyboard settings and check to see if buttons are bound (it might not of saved my config) and if not, or if you dont like them, edit by simply pressing B on the option you would like to change then press the GP2X button you would like. When you press a button it wont display in the menu correctly, it will display a keyboard key instead because currently the gp2x buttons are bound to key presses.

These are the keys the buttons are bound to currently, worth remembering incase you need to press a special button to do something (escape to cancel, return to confirm, Y to exit, etc):

Start = Escape (when in game, this opens the menu, X closes it again)
Select = Space
Joystick Click = Return
Volume Up = v
Volume Down = f
L = l
R = r
X = x
Y = y
A = a
B = b
Joystick Directions = Arrow Keys

If you find a bug I don't know about you can report it either at the forum thread (where you should of got this from) or email me at dave@melted.com

The bugs I know about ARE:
Input is a mess (will fix after some sleep :( )
Mouse cursor displays in top left (..just dont ask why)
Trying to load a saved game crashes (at least it did for me)
No Sound (the entire sound source file is commented out atm, heh)

This is mainly just to show i'm activly working on getting SW running on the gp2x and making progress. Enjoy.

just a quick update to let you know whats going on

I totally fixed the input routines and it controls smoothly and, imho, perfectly. i've played through the first level now xD forgot how much fun this game was, anyway..

got rid of the mouse cursor and managed to fix some major graphics corruption that was going on when intersecting with passable geometry which is nice - I enabled the voxel part of the engine too.

i'll release a new version to you guys after I have fixed the following two things:

1) loading of save games - it currently crashes. I figure you guys dont want to play level 1 over and over so i'll get that done before next release.
2) saving/loading of config file properly. strangly it seems quite happy to work if im running it from a terminal and then loves to forget everything if I run it from the gp2x menu. shrugs, no idea why, but i'll figure it out.

there will be no sound in the next release because the game is "playable" without it (but not half as fun), the release after that I hope to have sound. Unless popular vote says "don't release without sound!"

for people wondering about TTX - I have been working on that too dont worry, but this isnt the thread for that :) still waiting on media though.

I downloaded the shareware version for my PC. It was fun but the controls kinda freaked me out at first.

Can't wait for the gp2x version.

Also:
1 vote for version without sound then version with sound.

Maybe it's to do with where the program is launched from and how. I don't know much about how the Linux shell works, but I know I've had problems (more in Windows than Dos, I must say) before when launching a program from somewhere other than it's actual directory.

i.e.
cd click\kyoto
kyoto.exe

is different from

click\kyoto\kyoto.exe

despite the fact that they both launch the same program. Maybe GP2xmenu is launching it in such a way that it's looking for the config files in the wrong place?

I've just try it and I must say : Great Port.
Can't wait to see a "proper" release with sound and good controls !
Thanks for us all !

Woot! I've just bought into the GP2X and to know that Shadow Warrior is on the way is great - it's a thoroughly cracking game. Once some other kind person takes on doing Blood, then the three truly ace Build games will finally have a portable home. :)

Wow. Thanks! Any news about the port?

PS. If somebody will do a Blood port I will happily donate some pounds!

Very great, thank you, much appreciated.
If you launch something from the console after exiting from the menu it will run at about 100mhz (if you don't change it), when launched over the menu it will run at 200mhz.
Maybe you have a timing problem there?

im back again - shadow warrior has made progress past the point of the version I have uploaded - though I admit ttx has taken the main focus.

if people wondering where I have been then I basically havnt had a pc for a while, will be writing a detailed explination in my triple triad thread as soon as i find the bloody thing.. I will see if I cant upload an improved version of shadow warrior some time soon as well.

I didn't even realize this existed until today. Is the new version in a state to release because the link seems to be dead again. If not, you might still want to upload the first version to the archive so that you don't have to worry about hosting problems.
