Weirdest Shit Ever!!! Batteries Work Suddenly

Okay, I postet a thread before but I think that this needs some investigation!!!

My GP2X wouldn't turn on with batteries and someone answered that it was the same with him but then he discovered that after waiting a while without plugging it to the wall, batteries would suddenly work. Now I took that advice and checked a few times... I left it over night, I tried this, I tried that...

Now today I took mine to school... where I plugged it in!
Now I am home again thinking "Hey, I might just play a little Commander Keen on my GP2X" and by coincidence I discover that my gp2x does turn on with batteries now!

This is really weird... why could this have happened? It was not unplugged for a whole night but only for like 7 hours or something. Might this be a problem with capacitors? Is it something related to the batteries that needed a little "notch" to work? I have heard that some batteries when charged to the maximum will not dispatch power to certain electronics... It is not related to a broken contact or loose soldering point because I shook the unit quite firmly... so the batteries are not loose either...

Any ideas? Anyone with the same problem? I think this was worth a new thread since I actually almost pissed my pants seeing my gp2x run on batteries... it was scary! Imagine you just buried your cat in the garden after it's been dead for like 6 weeks when you discover it walking around in the house the next morning...

Very nice analogy there...

The same happened to me. I was actually on the verge of returning it when it happened. It should be fine now so long as you don't leave your GP2X plugged in for extended periods of time (as in overnight). However if you do leave it plugged in overnight, don't panic, as another 24 hours without plugging it in for too long will fix it.

I'm not sure what causes it, probably a component inside it needs to readjust or something.

Perhaps is this just a "ghost" problem with batteries, pushed to its extreme.
I mean : you must have them "naturally" empty in order to fully charged them again.
Try to use those batteries with another gear to test that out.

batteries also have trouble running if its too cold usally taking them out of the device (most like ly a high powered camera) rub them in ur hands after a minute they might work. Not heard of this problem in the gp2x though.

Please don't leave your dead cat sitting around for six weeks waiting for burial.

Thanks.

Naw, the cat was buried....

His GP2X pulled a Pet Sematary (sp?) on him!

Haha! That it sure did. It must be something hardware related. I have thought about the ghost problem too but these are batteries that are not rechargeble. Also the gp2x was laying inside for like a couple of days without working, so it can't be the cold either.

I wonder if this can be fixed with firmware in any way. Could it have something to do with the boot structure of the gp2x? Maybe something Nand related? I wonder if it uses some special kind of solid state disk or if it just uses regular flash-chips to store the OS... cause then it could be different from chip to chip since these always change. This is why handhelds should have instant-on SSDs ;) hehe

I know this thread is old as hell, and I never post. Although I recently had this problem and I believe I may have found the cause.

If you'll look at this thread,
http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showt...98&hl=batteries ,
you will see that people are saying that once the power supply is plugged in the batteries are disconnected. I believe that the gp2x may at times think that the power supply is still plugged in when it really isn't (due to some contact being made, when it shouldn't be) and will not detect the batteries. I was able to fix my battery problem by hitting (not too hard) the gp2x on the back right next to the DC plug towards the front of the gp2x (the gp2x was NOT plugged in). I had the power switched to on the whole time, and after about the third hit it immediately powered on (I had batteries in).

I hope this helps someone who searches through the forum in the future.

I think its the queens fault
damn her and her almightyness
she went to the manufacturing place of the gp2x's and fiddled with some

yeah it could be a little switch in the power supply (Where you plug in) that is supposed to switch of when you pull out the power cable, but somehow it stays switched on. So maybe you have to insert and pull out your powersupply cable a few times to get that little switch working again. (if it even exists ;) )
