Hi! I was just wondering where do you think Gamepark and the XGP Mini will be in the near future. I think that if the device is marketed properly it may stand on its own and take a little share of the PMP market but they mustn't go out directly agains Sony or Nintendo because they will be slaughtered.

EDIT: I am sorry it is not are but care in the last line of the poll!

That is an unknow.

I have no information about specs, about SDK, about GP policies towards XGP (open, closed, semi-open?), price, available titles at start (if any), etc. Therefore is giving any reasonable answer isn't possible at this time.

For certain the GP is an underdog and the XGP will be first received as the personal media player (not unlike the GP2x).

Wasn't the GP32 originally thought of like a direct competitor for the Nintendo's handhelds?

It failed at this as it couldn't match Nintendo's brand presence, available titles and technical advantage was nullified because of that.

I'd say the XGP (with its smaller size than GP2x) is going more into the PMP market than into game console bussiness. So it should be successful to an extent but nowhere near to the Nintendo.

I think even if it is open source, the gp2x has defined itself as the true sequel to the gp32 in the community's eyes and there would be homebrew for the xgp but the main focus would stay with the gp2x

Did they change their minds on that? I'd heard that they weren't going to be embracing the HB scene on the XGP, instead courting the commercial games and taking on the PSP and GBA markets.

That is, of course, like attacking a Tiger Tank with a toothpick.

Its possible that itll be very powerfull, if it isnt theres no way itll be able to compete unless they are like the GBA :)

I'm not sure. Powerful or not, They'd have to unseat the PSP (since the big N has always been unbeatable in the handheld dept.) in order to get the developers, and that will be tricky without Sony's bankroll (it's proving to be rather tricky WITH Sony's bankroll).

SONY: your sig and ava piss me off.

Just letting you know.

welcome to adblock. :D

No matter how powerful it is, it's not getting anywhere with that 2-2.5" screen, unless it gets new Konami and Square titles ;)

They have to get enough of developers' support to be able to have top 5-7 titles at the start. Without that (titles what people would want to play) no matter how XGP might be impressive technically it will fail. The GP32 did so as commercial console and so many others before.

I was going to ask "Where did this news come from???" but I just found it so now I'll ask "Is there a translation???"

Those pics of XGP Mini look alot like a Cenix GMP-M6 from another Korean company.

Yes, I noticed that too. I would risk to say there is a partial possibility than they are connected.

If it is open-source I think i'll grab it to supplement my GP2Xing, but the GP2X is a much more desirable HB platform...

Short answer: No

Long answer: No, because this world is flooded with too many pmp's (pmc's) and portable consoles and in my honest opinion, there is only enough room for three companies.

GamePark Holdings GP2X, SONY PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS: lite

I totally disagree because sure that the market is flooded but hey, most of the markets are flooded and still some companies make it through. Lately these new miniaturised hybrids of consoles and PMP's have become very popular but all of them but the GameBoy Micro don't have decent titles but the GBM doesn't have good PMP functionality and doesn't have PMP functionality at all outside Korea so the XGP has a chance if it's has a few famous titles and some other good titles even if not from the well-known ones but of course the XGP Mini has to be released outside Korea via some online retailers.
