The technical specs of the joystick rate its life at 100 000 operations only. I would think in a few months quite a lot of heavy user could bang that by oh um ... March or April, well will see !

Time to buy up some spares before they all run out and sell them too you at 1000% profit.

Ive read the spec sheet also, but didnt post it so as not to cause any unwarranted hysteria. A few people have had problems so far, but thats not abnormal for a mechanical joystick.. I guess we're gonna see over the next few months whats going to happen.

greeeeeeaaaaaaatttttt... What the hell were they thinking when they picked this stick?!?!

shoot... that's a show stopper for me... I was about to shell out the cash for a gp2x... I'm not going to risk having a device crap out on me less than 6 months after I get it... anywho, I'm going to reserve judgement until this whole mess gets sorted out... but until then looks like I'm going back to my zodiac.

Well, given DaveC's explanation of why they break, conceivably you could add a small piece of gravel or something as and when the nub does get worn.

Admittedly, the stick button might die sooner or later, but hey... we've still got 8 others, right? (10 if you include volume...)

Maybe they'll replace it with a more durable joystick in the interim, and whilst repairing messed up units.

We can hope.

Better still would be if the joys actually turn out to be able to last!

The main case of the joystick failure so far, Dorian Grey's, happened the day he took it out of the box.

I doubt he did 100,000 operations in a couple of hours.

Just calm down folks.

Although I DO hope GPH change the joystick soon (and offer a stick-replacement service to early adopters).

I wouldn't go that far. The zodiac stick is very prone to failure. I think you should get plenty of time out of the GP2X stick if you treat it well. The good news is that it is a $6.00 part if you need to replace it. I have 3 sticks now as spare parts.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!

Who cares. If the stick fail then worry. Until then calm down.
Some people on this forum panic over everything.
