Movie Player Issue

Well, I just got my GP2X today, I threw a few items onto the card, and I noticed that the movies seemed to work just wondefully. Now then, I checked around for other odds and ends to put on, and I saw the snes9x emulator, although it required the GP2X library files in order to work right.

I extracted the lib files and ran the emulator (crashed a few times, but whatever). Now then, when I went back to play the movies, it played barely 2 seconds of it, and then froze. I'm not sure what to do or not do here, so any help on this would be kickin rad.

it could be batteries, but if it isn't batteries then it is probably the snes emulator. I read somewhere that squidge was making use of some of the 32MB that linux uses for the movie player and that this could possibly mess up your movie player until you reset your gp2x and then it should go back to normal.

Here's something odd......

Once you guys mentioned the batteries, I opened it up and noticed that the batteries were pretty hot (the batteries came with the unit.. I have no idea what the mAh is). So, I took them out, and put in a couple of Duracell Ultra AAs, and the movie flies are playing fine again. It might've been just the heat from the batteries. In any event, thanks :D

Or it may have been that the batteries ran out. You should get some good rechargeables, this thing eats through batteries.

yup. that, or the fact that the batteries that come with the gp2x are complete rubbish :D

one of the two ;)

Yep.

Someone should really do a sticky topic saying "The batteries included with the unit are rubbish. Get good batteries. If you see lines, or can't play movies, it means replace your batteries."

I would agree, get at lest 4 good 2000mAh+ Rechargables. I use 2000mAh Radio Shacks (Green) ones that seem to last about 2 or 3 hours on some good game palying. Also I would recommend a good 1000ma (1 amp) 3 volt power supply. I got one from RS, a little pricy but works great. I came will extra tips that I can use on other things, my scanner, etc.

Enjoy!!

Cripes I can't get over how fast this thing goes through batteries o_O. Rechargables seem to be a quick solution for now, but if they can only last for 3 hours....... what are the chances that an update in future firmware releases will gradually extend the battery life? I don't even know if I got ONE hour out of mine, but goddamn that's a short amount of time for batteries to be drained o_O

They have been dealing with the battery issues with the firmware versions that heve been released and hopefully will continue to do so. Also check your firmware version and if its an older version, you could roll your sleeves up and have a go updateing. But please read some threads on upgrades and the guide in the wiki first. Have fun. :D

Upgrading firmware won't fix power issues... for now. Maybe wait for 1.4.0? =p
