Now most people here have had their GP2X for over a month, and have a pretty clear idea of what it can do, what do you think was done right, what should have been done better, and what should have been left out?

Basically, if GPH released a sequel, what should it be like? I'm not saying they will, and I'm not saying they should, but it's a good way to find out what you like and what you don't.

For me, I would have liked OpenGL support out-of-the-box and an FPU possibly. They should keep Linux and the community aspect, though.

What do you think?

a better stick, touchscreen, usb host. maybe a bit faster cpu, but 200mhz seems allright to me.
But it of course depends on the year, most likely there are cpus that take less power for a higher clock at the same price in a few years
so they should go for them, the great thing with linux is that many stuff will stay compatible as long as they dont hit the hardware direktly,
maybe there will be a new version of the mmsp2 with the vrender thingee included, that may be a great advancement.

well on the hardware side they should have used a nice D-pad insted of the damn slipery stick and wifi would be nice to that or the usb should be able to host :D also a optional battry pack would be nice:)

thanks beanfarmer

They should make it at least three times the size it is now, that would make it three times as powerful. And they should have a disc-drive, so that you can copy PlayStation, X-Box, Saturn and Mega-CD games directly onto it. And a 200gb hard-drive, and a cartridge slot on the top that takes N64, SNES, NES, MegaDrive, Master System and GBA games. And a random game generator so that you don't have to sit around waiting for other people to make games.

I was kinda hoping the GP2X would include all of this when it was first announced, guess not though.

1. No more plastic case. Please, give us an aluminium or some other metal case ..
2. USB Host +Device *standard* and both working.
3. Analog stick.
4. WLAN on-board.

Also, it'd be nice if it could somehow get smaller/more streamlined .. I've already looked at what it would take to mill my own custom case, and i think there is great room for improvement there ..

A proper joystick (like snes, nes etc)
Some sort of OpenGL support.
Maby skip the second cpu and make the primary a faster one..

Well, one can dream..

I bet if they released a GP2X with these add-ons now (Wifi, USB Host, Touchscreen, FPU etc) it would take the price way above a PSP and probably still not be as fast for 3D games.

I like it the way it is, cheap-ish and fast enough.

Better stick (but NOT analogue!!)
Single core 300MHz+ CPU
FPU
Wifi, just cos

That's about it really. Oh, and they could hire a few more people next time, preferably ones who know how to write decent firmware and then release the source (*ducks*) :D

I can think of lots of essential things they left out of the design:

- blue-ray disc support
- support for 3d-holographic projection, like R2D2.
- a toaster.
- a motorised 'tilt' attachment, like space harrier in the arcades;
- a chocolate biscuit vending machine.
- lasers.
- a tractor beam.
- a force feedback steering wheel, pedals, wing mirrors and fluffy dice for authentic 'outrun' gameplay.
- an 8-WAY DIGITAL JOYSTICK. dammit! :)

Oh, er, by the way, I meant serious things. Be funny if you like, but have some sort of point in your post before you post it.

Faster single cpu (arm10 or 11? preferably with fpu) and a proper graphics chip (ati imageon or nvidia goforce?) compact flash slot rather than sd (so microdrives could be used).

The VRender3D chip is basically a MMSP2 with the second core removed, but has 3D capability and two wavetable synthesizers (so upto 64 wave channels across 4 speakers, all in hardware), so that's already been done and is ready to use.

The VRender is meant for a games machine, whereas the MMSP2 is meant for a PMP - which is basically what the GP2X is, and where GPH are concentrating.

Just a little common sense in the design, like not putting the power lead input near where my fat fingers need to be! Decent build quality, (headphone socket).
Just a few basic things. I know we have adopted this device early but nothing like this is gonna change for the offical release is it?

Reproductive organs. Just think about it! Your gp3x could asexually produce more gp2xs, all slightly better than the last.

And maybe, if they have enough space after that, a 3d card.

A nice GPU, maybe geforce 4 equivilent?
A rechargable battery pack and consequently usb-powered and charged when hooked up.
A touch screen would be neat but not nessesary, for what i use my gp2x for(gaming), unless a DS emulator comes out, which wouldnt appeal to me at all.
A nice GUI system OS along similar lines of windups, or, linux with KDE.
Nicely sized onboard storage space, as in the kind you keep 1's and 0's not travel rugs :).
And a more off the wall idea, (easily) upgradable hardware.

And of course, it needs goFast.
