Gutted.

My GP2x just refused to turn on with fresh batteries. Trying no to panic, I decided to open it up and have a look... Though there's no obvious damage, the on/off sliding swithc has stopped working. I checked this with some taped-on batteries and a couple of pairs of croc clips. It works with a croc clip across the switch terminals.

Yep, I know I shouldn't have opened it up, voiding my warranty, but that's just the way I am. Damn.

Does anyone have an idea of a part number for the little switch or an appropriate similar one? This is the main power SW1. I have loads of toggle switches that I reckon would work, but they're all much too big in size. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron after a couple of years circuit bending drum machines but thought I might ask for help here as I know a few people have had the thing apart for mods etc...

Help.

Thanks

:(

Those are only rated at 200mA, I'd try to find a 1A switch if possible.

Thanks, I'll take a look at those. I've found a few other potential switches too. I don't think this looks like a massive big deal after all. While I had it open I took the opportunity to remove one of the layers of foam behind the screen stopping that annoying bulge, and I've slightly moved the board to line up the joystick.

I'm a little worried for everyone else though, :( if you could see how cheap this very important switch is, mine was already a little corroded, and the main contacts are actually less than 1 mm across. it looks like they could easily break or get moved out of line with not much use, like mine has.

I put a more sturdy temproary switch on a croc clip for now, looks a bid odd but it works perfect until I find a replacement.

One of my speakers wasn't soldered in either! Hadn't noticed as I've been turning sound off wherever possible (not good for the bus..) I'll fix that too. The red battery LED was also bent right back. Must have been having a bad day when they put this one together..

This evening my headphone socket just messed up on the GP2X, sound still comes out of the main speakers as well as the headphones (when plugged in)

I e-mailed GBAX confirming if I can send it back for repair/replacement at 21.45 this evening and they replied back to me within 5 mins (great service from them)
The problem could be something simple, but I dident open it as this could void the warrenty

Oh well!!!! I was looking forward to playing squidgenes this week and I have to put it on hold..... well gutted as well.

well hes said hes opend it...and they will know its him because the switch will be broken just like he described here...

the good retailers will take it back anyway most likely. (thats as long as you didnt damage it obviously)

yeah. up until the point at which you start removing components, and soldering in a new power switch. that might be a step too far :D

Well I've not soldered or altered anything yet. I'm going to email GBAX and own up to everything and just see what they say. Best to be honest I reckon. If they say no, then that's fine I guess, it was my fault for opening it. We'll see.

Craig's a reasonable guy, he knows what we tend to do when it doesn't work. He'll probably get you a nice replacement power switch and you can be on your way :)

Thanks mate, that's what I'm hoping. I'm definitely the kind of customer that sticks with a good company, and I have only good experience with GBAX in the past. I've already ordered a TV out from them, despite my currently non-working GP2x.
