What Component Is This?

Two weeks ago, my headphone socket literally fell in to the gp2x. Good for me, I had a friend of mine who fixed/soldered it. :)

BUT, when we were finished, I took an extra look just in case, it was then I saw a loose component (very small). I "tickled" it, and it fell off! My friend said that it was too small for him to solder it, and he didn't know the poles ( + and - ).


On the component it stands: C106

SO, the question is: Which way do I have to set it, when I solder it? And do I need it :p ?

Where is the place of this part? There are lots of C106 elements on the gp2x's pcb...
This is probably a capacitor with +/- polarity. It has to be soldered correctly or you might get malfunction or even destroy your gp2x (depends where this part is located). And it's SMD so soldering will not be that easy. This is so especially if it's close to others chips. Better find someone with proper skills and equipment to do repair.

jeebus.. thought it might have been a capacitor. *note to self, don't tickle GP2x components..*
 
It could also be a Sensitive Gate Silicon Controlled Rectifiers according to a quick
google search (first hit)

If it's not that specific component you could try searching for the datasheet of C106 if you want to know de polarities. Although it's pretty tricky soldering such small components.

Its not a silicon rectifier, as those generally 3-legged. Its just a plan old capacitor. You can tell polarity by the stripe. There is a 75% chance it will work fine without it, based on the design of the circuit. Most are used to control spikes, but many are not critical.

I can repair that for you if you dont have any other alternatives.

I'm sorry, tripod sucks.

I edited a picture of the pcb, and did a little noob drawing in paint.
But, tripod doesn't like hotlinking..

Depends on the notation but I've found that R274 would mean a 2.7x10(to the power 3) ohm/ 2.7k ohm resistor.

So conversely C106 may well be a 1.0x10(to the power -6) Farad / 1uF capacitor.

BUT I ain't saying that I'm right here...

(Also on the PCB the R## and C## are placement numbers - which come in useful at the factory)
