Hey everyone,

Been away from the forums for a long time, things were happening and it wasnt always possible to access the forums, but have been reading them when I could :).

A few Quick questions:

1- Will I be able to play many 3d games soon or in the future?
2- Do any 3d games work with MAME or some other emu's, I.e FPS's or some flight sims?

Thanks,

Looked but cant find much, and am stuck with 56k right now so it is sooo slow,

Thanks for the help

Yeah there will be some 3d games. I've run quake on my gp2x and it runs at an acceptable speed, anything newer than that will probably not be that feasible with the speed of the processors and the lack of 3d hardware. Supposedly theres a Duke Nukem port as well but it only works with a few versions.

The version of MAME out now is a pretty old version (0.34) and will not run any recent arcade games.

Skeezix' GP2X still hasn't reached him, he ordered from near Mexico to Canada.

He will be porting Descent (open source), If you haven't played, find a 233-800mhz pentium computer with windows 98 and dos.

I highly recommend Descent: the definitive collection It includes descent 1 CD version (music is sooo good, apollo four-forty etc.) Descent II and Descent II Vertigo missions and the DLOTW collection (Descent Levels of The World, 120 of the most excellent player made maps, missions, and full game mods, and arenas)

I hope he is going to try for D2X-XL type of port, it supports all of the above stuff as one sweet port.

CDAccess.com has Descent I, II, and III in a pack for $24.95

On Topic, It is one of the first games to feature all 3D opponents, and quite a few 3D weapon blasts. And the only game I know of still to offer full 360°x360°x360° movement and rotation in a FPS type maze game.

As much as I love Decent, isn't it going to be a bit awkward to control on the GP2X?

Only as awkward as it was on the PSX :D

I can handle it.

I bet it is going to be easier than using my libretto 110ct :p

(here is a libretto 70ct with a Japanese keyboard, but basically the same size and layout as my 110ct, I had both a 50ct and a 110ct until recently when I sold my 50ct - I actually null-modem cable gamed Descent on one :) .)

I play holding the computer and using my thumbs, very difficult, I also have kgen98 for Dos, and all the same roms as I do for DrMD, it is getting me through not having my GP2X running.

I almost wish there was the same support for the Libretto/PC emulation scene as the GP2X scene, I know a 233mhz pentium could do a better job than the GP2X at a lot of Emus (PC HH  ), and the screen is 720x480, but then again, this is a subnotebook from the mid 90's, and I would have to mod a hell of a controller set-up to make it worth it.
