Do we actually have any? I'm not sure, but perhaps we should. . . Some signatures are rediculously big, and some really detract from the thread in question. I'm betting some are not popular with some people not on broadband yet either (or the ones who are, but have certain download limits)

Eg, a mostly graphical signature would have the following restrictions:
Maximum width of 320,
Maximum height of 120,
Non-animated.

Whereas a mostly textual signature would just have a limit of 5 lines of 80 characters.

If both textual and graphic are used in the same signature, then the combined size should not be much larger than the graphical limits.

I would have thought would be big enough for anyone?

Any for/against?

But signatures are everyone's private announcment board. You should keep it text only, or limited to < 20kb GIF files.

For some people, it's their avatar that is huge (let's say, >500KB) along with the signature. Disabling signatures does not disable avatars.

I've had signatures disabled previously, but I noticed that some people would answer posts with "The link to my page is in my sig."

My Controls -> Board Settings -> turn off signatures :)

thank you god, that annoying cartoon girl eating bread brings my machine to its knees. 'I know, I'll put the whole worthless episode in my sig!' -what an idea...

I had looked in those settings previously for a sig killer but I'm obviously not reading up to a second grade level yet. ;)

Anyways.. uhmm.. I dont think that one is very big, the black cat avatar I have is bigger in size.

the infamous bread one is about 350kb, and the black cat one is 500k or so.

Imma change my black cat one, then ill only have 300kb for you guys to load moo-hahah.

Why such a small image width? I think just so the image doesn't change the size of the text area, it's fine.

And yeah, I use my signature to promote my site, so it's useful. Otherwise, they're just fun.. I see nothing wrong with them.

yeah, congratulations...

it's always the same, when you give people freedom and as them to use their common sense, a few idiots always end up ruining it for the entire community and making rules obligatory...

personally i'd suggest no rules, but just have common sense rule, if people complain about an ava/sig (like with drak), make them change it, lets not ruin it for everybody with rules because of those few who are actually abusing it...

Exactly, @#$@%#% like Drak think anyone wants to wait to load 1 meg of anime shit. God change your sig and avatar Drak, you were asked to do that for weeks now!

Where are the mods to ban people *now*!

The problem is I can do nothing with remote avatars and signatures. Can't turn them off. So you can turn off "view signatures and avatars" options in you rpofile setting or just report post of the person with huge avatar/signature (don't forget to add a reason you are reporting him). All I can do is to turn off the signature of the user but he can turn it on. I did it like about 4-5 times to drak. Today is the last time - if he doesn't change it - i'll ban him forever, don't think it'd be a big loss for a community anyway.
Merry Christmas :)

UPDATE:

Damn how I could forget about this cool function. If you don't want to turn off viewing avatars / signature you can simply IGNORE user. Just click user name and then choose IGNORE from menu on the right. You won't see any avatar/signature and post what in Drak case's not a big loose anyway. You still have option to read his post so this is the perfect solution.
Merry Christmas :)

I dont get it... I dont even notice loading times of signatures, if it is not larger than 1M it's fine for me :)

but yes, the content of some sigs is annoying.

I have had Drak on ignore for weeks now... you are right he is a completely useless member and his posts are just as useless. He was asked nicely and he just mocked the people asking for not having a faster connection.

Ive only got a 350kb sig now ok guys? Thx kk merry christmas.

My avatar wont be there. The black cat one was 500kb and people complained about the one in my sig which is only 350kb.

I still think that some people should honestly get a job, and buy a 2000+mhz processor computer they cost like what 400$? , anyone who doesnt have one should well.. think how far back they are in technology :) and highspeed dsl is like 9.99 a month from that one company, forget the name..

Besides signature rules dont go against the TOU or w/e I just looked and it doesnt mention anything about having gigantic signatures -.- you guys are so mean.

~hides in corner crying~

why should people upgrade there pc and internet connection just so that you can use annoying, stupidly large signatures and avatars? don't you think that's a little selfish?

Actually, don't bother replying - your on my ignore. Same goes for the bloke with that stupid animated robot in his sig...

Other forums I visit have pretty relaxed signature rules, but if someone decides to use a stupidly large one, they get banned for 24 hours with a little notice to there email. If they ignore the notice, they get banned for 7 days, followed by indefinitely.
