Hello, i have a GP2x, and I maked sticks :D, i never think broke the original stick, and i maked sticks of 0.
Custom sticks in this web, have all my customs sticks (Dave thanks for the inspiration for my last stick)

Nice of you to use pictures of my RetroCon mod ;) ....

A quick translation from the above link:

"Some users do not finish adapting to stick of the GP2X, or by their form or because when moving it towards the sides, by his tamañon is very easy to mark the diagonals (to my personally it goes to me or, but good)... Due to this, some users already have begun to look for alternatives stick, since he can be removed and be replaced by which he has the hollow to hook it of the same form. Several have replaced his stick by one of pad retrocon and say that now the control is perfect."

You're welcome :)

Edit: Thanks to Cave for actully doing the first mod (and posting a pic) and thanks to Magus 86 for the initial idea (have to give credit where it's due..)

Wow that other site has some crazy mods. I like the arcade style joystick. Does anyone know what size drill bit works the best for the shaft of the gp2x. This inspired me to start drilling holes and sticking radom things on my machines.

Dave,

If you are willing to do it, making the joystick metal shaft smaller does help, every little you take off it the less the deadzone is.

I've been on at gamepark since I saw the prototype to use the GP32 stick.

But since they still think all the GP2X is used for is playing movies its proving harder than expected.

Yeah I will try that on my GP32Z purchased unit (has newer FW). I bought it for a friend but he didn't want it after he heard of the buggy FW.

I may have to send the one I got from you back because it was the first batch and has LCD problems such as the wavy diagonal line and has the original FW. I don't use that one because of that.

Anyway the reason they like that stick is because it is ready made off of the shelf. It is made by ALPS. I have ordered some spare sticks but they are on backorder (maybe GPH bought all of the stock). As soon as I get them I will take it to bits and see if I can mod it to reduce dead zone and reduce accidental diagonals. If it works I will post results.

I donno, i actually thought it looked resonable, theres something i respect about hom modded stuff, just like i would prefer a hand painted skin of lower quality to a storebought skin. Plus if it has more gameplay, im fine with it.

lol. So great.

I tried looking for a good joystick, but all of my controllers wouldn't work. I went to my local ebgames, and they had no retro-con or that other controller. Any suggestions?

You could try the analog stick from the dreamcast, or either the Neo Geo CD Control Pad or the Neo Geo Pocket Color stick. I think I'm going to try to do mine out of this stuff called "Polymorph" that they sell at maplin in the UK.

Dunno what kind of DC controllers you're using, but my DC analog sticks are attached to a round ball and aren't coming off wothout a cutting tool which would completely ruin the controller.

Hum, I have a busted NES controller. If I had a drill, I'd make a bad-ass stick-hat from the d-pad...

Smart thinking, I got a used (covered in some bad smelling gunk) N64 controller from a second-hand store.

It is a Superpad 64Plus by Interact.

It has a removable stick cap that is *almost* the right size, I am debating hot nail vs. drill (I think drill is winning, no rush I have a bricked one atm).

I'll look for a pic *watch this space*

Edit: found

Lik-Sang sells em new who says lik sang is good for nothing? They are a great picture resource :D

I am planning on doing something like what DaveC did to the GP stick to this one, and shortening it up a bit because it is too tall as-is.

Like I say, I got it for $2 because of the thrashed controller it was attached to.

Whoops, I think the servers are down, I put it up on my page, here you go.

Apologies for the grave dig but has anyone done any follow up on this?

I also noticed from the gp2xstick PDF (linked in the above quote) that a "Version without push-on switch is also available"
I can't find the data sheet for the non stick-click version.
Does anyone think (or theorize) that the version without the stick-click would perform any different than the standard GP2X stick, especially in regards to the dead zone?

EDIT: Did some more searching and found this:
http://www3.alps.co.jp/WebObjects/catalog....RKJXM/RKJXM.PDF
and a slightly different version of the standard gp2xstick PDF :
http://www3.alps.co.jp/WebObjects/catalog....RKJXL/RKJXL.PDF

Maybe the gurus can make sense of this.
