I just today received my GP2x and thought it would be a great idea to try and get the NES2x emulator up and running.
I downloaded and installed the SDL library that the gp2x.de page says it requires. I then proceeded to place the downloaded NES2x on my SD card and fired up my handheld. When I click on the icon for the emulator, the screen turns black and nothing else happens. What am I doing wrong? Also, what is the file type that NES2x requires the Roms to be?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whoops...I should really watch where I post, this should be in the GP2x section

you have to unzip the roms. If the screen turns black that does not mean that the emulator does not work, check whether you are in a kind of file browser. Maybe you can see "save" in small letters. this is the folder wich is genrated by the emulator. Try to browse on your sd card and go to the folder where your roms are and choose the game you want to play. Good luck.

Make shure you have got the pictures that came with the emulator in the folder as your snesgp2x.gpe and if that dosent work try re-install the sdl libararies I had to do it a few times befor mine worked.

Still nothing :(
I'm probably doing something wrong, would anyone be willing to explain it step-by-step to me?
But still, thank you for the already provided information.

It's probably the SDL libraries not being installed properly. You need to put the "install_libs.gpu" and "install_libs.tar.gz" files in the root of your SD card, not a subfolder. Select "utility" from the menu and then run the ".gpu", you should be right.
