If this isn't just a clone on the case design, surely Magic Eyes will not be supplying boards to this company?

Thats a very good point actually. I hate these second rate copies will probably stop working after 6 months anyway.

hmm..well they do list the specs for video decoding, etc so they may be using the magic eyes soc. why else would GPH consider this a problem?

but it probably will end up to be a portable famicom with video playback.

Actually, I don't see why not - as far as Magic Eyes is concerned, the cloner is another customer for its chips. In fact, if the knockoff has lower quality materials for the remaining components (slower RAM, front- or non-backlit LCD, lower resolution LCD, etc) it will be cheaper than the GP2X. If this causes it to sell better than the GP2X, then it could become the preferred customer instead of GPH.

Its just if i were Magic Eyes i would be considering the relations I have with previous customers, and whether I'd want to be dealing with a legaly questionable company's new project to rip them off...

but i imagine that nothing serious will come of this, and unless they build an identiical unit, there's not going to be much in the way of software for it (nobody is going to be homebrewing for it - unless it is compatible).

to be honest i think they just nicked the picture to wow propective customers, i imagine whatever they plan to be selling will not be in competition with gp2x (didn't the website only mention media playback?)

Maybe in 6 months we can order from GBAX's Retro section for $20. One cookie* says it's a 200-in-1 Tetris player!

*White chocolate & macademia nut. Sprinkles extra.

Yay! The POP Station rules :)

The first GAME & WATCH with headphones support to listen to squeaky sounds in full HIFI... eeerm, beepy Stereo :p

Judging from the review I think I'd choose genuine G&W any day over the POP Station

Edit: If you missed it, this is another review by the same guy: Neo Double Games The DS Clone from the same company

I'm surprised how bad since these things seem resonably popular that they are not of a higher quality.

Alibaba! I wonder if the 40 theives had a hand in procuring the GP4 technology! eheh
That website is actually a lead site for importer exporter types. The company that is selling the gp2x clone is Shenzhen Seepu Technology Co., Ltd..(They do not deserve the community's support in any shape way or form imho).

With a little digging I was able to find all sorts of dubious technology that may or may not make it by your local customs officers. Some of my favorites ... Handheld Game, 8 Bit TV Game, Gamebox,

you get the idea eh?
Hey, that "handheld game" appears to be the Gameking! GBAX used to sell those. Basically they were crappy little consoles that (despite appearances) did not play Gameboy games, but rather their own little carts.

They have a comically low resolution 4 greyscale LCD screen, but are oddly proficient at semi-decent audio.

Heh that's awesome! Check this Game King Fansite out. The cheese factor really makes me want to pick one of these up. A far cry from Gp2x development, but somehow I think I might have better luck getting into coding with it.
