Just wondering if other people have had the same problem as me....

Did your GP32 suddenly stop overclocking too? Mine used to work at 184Mhz but now is up and down, mostly down..
 
Well, the pencil is basically dust, it can drop off from the resistors. As I recall, the resistor is mostly facing down.

Some sort of glue might help making it stick.
 
I seem to (vaguely) recall back in the days of the first Amd Athlon processors you could also use the Pencil trick but it would have problems sometimes. The better route was using the stuff that heated car rear window elements are made of. A liquid that dries I think. Forget its name but this may work better on gp32's. Do some googling
 
Using glue to retain the pencil dust would not be a good idea as it would reduce the resistance gained through using the pencil (think doping) and although it would never drop the resistance below the resistance of the resistor (sic) it would be pointless.

And using the liquid metal that is using in car windows would be too dangerous -- how would you ensure that you don't reduce the resistance too much? BTW the AMD pencil trick opened up the over clocking multiplier.

Just fit a proper resistor and you know the performance that you get will be sustainable.
 
sorry forgot this trick was all to do with resistance and not just joining up a path ;)
 
yeah.
i used to be able to do 166mhz
i did the pencil trick and achieved 200 for about a month, now i can only get about 150mhz
