Whats Going On With Gbax

I think we should be blaming sony here, not craig.

Also a lot of you seem to be confusing VAT and import duty, no one paid VAT on their HK PSP's.

The odd thing is, it's only a month until the PSP's european release, is it really worth sony's while to start doing this all now when in 30 or so days their legal efforts will be pointless?

Well it turns out my PSP has been shipped so hoping it should be with me soon. But will probably end up with import tax to pay which is a pain in the ass as it will put the price up even more. Would have ordered from lik-sang if i knew it was going to be imported.

Does anyone know how much import tax I can expect to pay?

Also I can understand why GBAX cant speak about it if they have been sued but they should have removed all things PSP from there site rather than redirect you to a different site. This way there reputation would still be intack and they would have taken alot less aggro from annoyed customers.

Nope, it isn't pointless.
Because these retailers won't offer an imported PS3 or any new Sony console when it'll come out.

If we have not paid VAT on our HK PSPs, then please explain the DHL document I have that clearly states the amount of VAT I have been charged, along with the seperate amounts for import duty and DHL administration costs (and no, the VAT isn't for the administration costs, as it's higher than the administration costs)...

Woderwick: I've already replied to your PM, see there.

Also finty, it was Craig's choice to setup the redirect thing - he wasn't forced to do it by Sony, so how can you blame Sony? Sure, they stopped him from selling them locally, but he could have just removed them from his site like the rest of them, rather than playing the trick.

Fair point, but I reckon a fair few will still try.

Well sony can just take any ideas of getting me to buy/encourage other's to buy a PSP and cram it down their collective throats. This kind of anti-customer choice activity is despicable, and I refuse to support a company that engages in it.

Sony is the new McDonalds.

(I was going to write a lengthy message, but I think I've summed it up in a single line.)

Sounds more like microsoft to me. I read somewhere that thailand was thinking of using linux on PC's that they were going to make affordable for everyone in the country and because microsoft doesn't want thailand using linux they offered to sell a new computer with windows xp proffessional (with all windows software, ~$200 value) for about the equivalent of $37 US.

Control freaks.

Control freaks? Microsoft? Nahhhh... ;)

Mind you, don't forget the Xbox360 will only run Microsoft approved hardware, software *and* accessories. Yup, Microsoft have managed to get digital rights management into joypads and the like !

(yes, I know hardware and accessories are basically the same thing, but some people get them confused, so I included both for the sheer hell of it :) )

How can a whole country use Linux

What do you mean? Its not that it was required that you use linux, the idea was that because linux is free they could offer poor families pc's for low prices. If you had the money you could buy a microsoft pc. But even if you couldn't get anything but linux, that wouldn't be bad, then there wouldn't be many compatability issues (at least not within the country), there would be much less computer crashes, and they wouldn't be supporting a US monopoly. I think its a great idea.

EDIT: HERE's a link to check out. Its not the one that I found that on but it says about the same thing and more. I will find more links for you if you're not satisfied.

Sony are being a pain in the ass (glad I brought my friends PSP from Liksang before this happened) and gbax really didn't do any favours by setting up the redirect (glad we didn't buy the PSP from gbax like I recommended).

If you don't know now then probably non at all. The import tax gets charged on the doorstep by the postman, otherwise you don't get the item at all. Sounds like you've got off lightly.

In my and Squidges experience the DHL bill didn't arrive for a good week afterwards and for both of us was around the 25 quid figure...
