Hey, I have upgraded my GP32 with 64mb RAM, and increased the voltage to the CPU for better overclocking. BUT I wonder if it would be possible to actually upgrade the CPU in the GP32. What I mean is buy another ARM9 Proccessor and install it in? This would make the GP32's processor run as fast or faster than the PSP(222mhz). 166mhz vs. 200-250mmhz. THis would GREATLY IMPROVE emulators and such. Just wanted some feed back before I study on it and maybe attempt it. THANKS

there was a diskussion very long ago, and the end of it was that its not possible.
I think it was because there was no other arm9 prozessor with the same pinout and some other reasons.

but i have a question to you: since you upgradet you ram, you should have some ram chips spare. Want to sell them ? cos i cant find the right ones :/

Yes it's possible. Ever since I got my GP32 a month ago, I have been heavily modding it and a cpu swap is next.

Based on my reasearch and comparisons, browsing through datasheets and the like the most suitable replacement of the GP's S3C2400 is none other than its descendant, the S3C2410. This cpu is available in two flavors: a 1.85v 200MHz part and a 2.0v 266Mhz variety.

Two problems that can be solved with effort however...

1. These chips are of different package types, 208QFP vs 272FBGA ooohhh, I luv soldering!

2. The PLL setcodes are different (no big deal -recompile your software with the proper values)

All in all it is still practical, I plan on doing this as soon as I get some more spare time.

@ seraptin: Sorry I have used it to upgrade other GP32's and am all out.

I have been looking for some pinouts of the CPU, but cant find any. Also sorry if it takes me a while to respond I am so very busy at the moment and am suprised I have time for this(I really dont I'm just MAKING time for it :D ) Another thing how much is a ARM9 processor gonna set me back??? Forgot to add that I know that for the GP32 to take advantage of the 64mb ram the firmware or bios cant remember have to be changed so I'm guessing that for it to use the cpu to its full potential they would have to be changed again, but I dont program these things. Thanks for the input guys

psp is 333 mhz dood! nothing out there is faster (in the us and canada anyway)

The gizmondo is uber secksi with tis 400mhz... but it currently cant run homebrews.

The Tapwave Zodiac i believe uses a arm9, 200mhz processer and seems pretty cool.. Might want to trade my gp32+dreamcast for one :) dunno i guess i gotta see how fast the emus are on it first..

Hey thanks for the input but your wrong. The PSP is CAPABLE of 333mhz, but is locked to 222mhz. If you want to debate this I'm happy to prove you wrong I DEVELOP FOR IT, but nice try tho. Sorry to sound uhh well pissed off but I hate it when people try to say your wrong and they have NO idea what the hell they're talking about. <_<

Not for homebrew. ;)

There are new versions of PSP emulators that have found a way to get past Sony's 222mhz "cap", namely Snes9x. Anyway, don't want to start a fight, so have a good day. :p

Yes true, you are absolutely right. I was talking about commercial games. In fact, many companies have asked Sony for permission to surpass this but it has been denied.

changeing the cpu is "impossible" as long as you dont want to solder it to 100 small wires that arent allowd to be long couse of signal and so on.
there are compatible µc's by samsung, right, but they all have different pinout.

This is not possible, couse the CPU in your gp32, IS your gp32.
The CPU in your gp32 is a complete computer chip, not only a CPU core. There is a Memory controller, SMC card controller, LCD controller, ... ALREADY build in the gp32 chip.

The gamepark guys did a very easy job, creating the gp32, only get this chip, build a nice case around it, and sell it as gp32.

There is no alternative to this chip, couse its unique.
