Sd Support And Remote Controller From Creator Of G

Very cool :)

maybe you could continue your dr md support reesy and add basic mega cd support if we can use 4gig sd cards as many mega cd games did not use the extra hardware capabilities. Oh and cd compatibility for the pc engine should definitley be possible - do you think this could be a possibility?

sounds awesome!!!
if its cheap or i can do it myself i will do it :) together with the ram mod and the volt mod and and and... :) hehe when you have a gp32 with the SD Mod, Volt Mod (200mhz) and 64 MB ram mod you cann call it gp32 2 ;)

Isnt today April 1st?
No!

And if you apply all of those mods the GP gets a real battery killer!
(Which could make the Game Gear better XD )

Good point, how much is all this going to cost me though, I mean the sd card must be £60 - £100+ pound at least, then the added expense of a converter £30 - £ 50 pound, the possibilties sound promiseing, the price doesnt. Cant see every one forking out that much when the psp emulation is growing, its more powerful & in the same price band as the above. Its memory cards have larger capasity. I love my GP32 but I think I would have to weigh the pro's & cons before such a move.

I mean changeing firmware & modification not for everybody. Personally doesnt bother me as my Gp32 modified !!

I also cant see it being released either, it will be one of those gadgets somebody will open a forum questioning what happened to it- I take bets on that one

<_< <_< gp32_console <_< <_< ;)

Looks very cool... An addition to the list of mods I want to get done (I'm too worried about frying my GP to try the volt mod myself).

Any ideas what the remote will actually do? Presumably control GPCinema, but the photo'd one also has controls for a radio tuner. Probably too much to hope for, but it would be great if the tuner was built into the remote itself and capable of outputting audio to the GP32 speakers.

EDIT:

The only page I can find that seems to have information on the remote control is here: http://www.allegro.pl/show_item.php?item=51595677

I'm pretty sure it's in Polish, but have no idea what it means. Any thoughts?

I realise functionality of the remote in its normal use won't necessarily correspond to when it's hooked up to the GP32. I'm mainly wondering if it has a radio tuner built in, so we could listen to radio on the GP and perhaps even record audio from radio or the microphone to SMC.

EDIT 2:

Nope, that site doesn't help. Translated text:

Ah well, back to typing up my research project...

nice news..
Just a question: squidge said that is the file system that is changed thanx to a new firmware (or something like that, doesn't matter), so can i still use GPbios to boot with this firmware (if it is released and then in a .bin version...) ?
I can not wait... this is so cool

sdcards arent that expensive, in germany you can get a 1GB SD card for 60€ thats i think arround 40£... and i dont need a 1GB one, 512 MB would be enough for me (those are arround 20 - 30 €. the modification will ne more expensive i think. but i would pay up to 40 € for it.

about PSP, ok the emus are nice, but a 1.0 PSP is hard to get and expensive too. and with the newer ones its not possible yet (or am i wrong?)

@royston79: you would have to buy a memory stick for your psp too. and i dont think they are cheapter than sd cards.

+ it looks like he has only build in a additional reader for sd-cards... i dont think that this mod would be too expensive + you could try to do it on your own if your expirienced with electronics. i think if you let someone else do this mod it would cost about 20-30$.
and i dont think you can get a psp for 20-30$

Edit: arrr Sonic-NKT was faster than me xD. and yes the 1.5 bios is not cracked yet.....

Do you guys really trust a mod from a guy that can't put the L and R buttons back on the correct side?

:p

Nice Job :)

He does say his GPCinema is in the firmware though, which probably means it doesn't support any other applications - you switch it on, and your in GPCinema. Hopefully, he'll patch (or create) a firmware that supports the SD card, and then release some source code to allow people to put it in there emu's etc.

I don't think the hardware itself would be too difficult - Smartmedia cards use an 8-bit bus that is connected directly to the processor, and SD cards use a 4-bit bus, so you can talk to them directly without any additional hardware. However, the firmware does require changes to talk to these cards, which is what Gomwing has done. Just need to hackup the original firmware, and then distribute some code so that existing emu's can be updated.

As some people may have known, I was trying to do a similar thing, but keep backwards compatibility (so 128mb for old apps, and ?Gb for new apps). However, I fried my gp32 in the process :(

And that after all the talk of "It`s impossible to surpass the 128mb limit".

It's still impossible. This is a completely new file system (and looks like new firmware), and therefore most likely not backwards compatible.

(If it is backwards compatible, then I'll bow down to Gomwings greater knowledge, and shut the hell up :) )

I wonder what the bios patches are... they should be minimal as all the SMC stuff is basically in SDK libs. I would assume the same applies also for the SD support.. and hmmm... is there backwards compatibility? Would love to add this to my 64M, +166MHz, voltage level modded GP32.. ;)

Hum that's amazing news... One more "can't be done" that's been done :p
The GP32 scene and the fantastic people who work for it gives us another joy!
Keyboard... GPS.. Bluetooth... Now SD support... Damn good!
Amazing!

Yeah, the SMC stuff is in the SDK libs, but the firmware still needs to find and load an appropriate file before handing control over, so would need to find the SMC libraries in the firmware and overwrite them.

Just a pity the routines the firmware uses to load your program you can't use yourself, instead of having to duplicate them everytime. Then we could have just hacked the firmware and be done with it :)

lets hope we get some detailed schematics online soon for this and i for one will definitley start modding gp32's once we know exactly what is involved. :D

Well.. if the guy (ohh.. I love this making up these theories) has done IO & file system libs it's not a big deal to do a launcher that understands the SD. I would assume this firmware contains a SD capable launcher - would be easier that patching imho (but not that rewarding though) To be seen until more info is available.
