This is a cool puzzle/arcade type game where you have to drill through blocks to get to the bottom of the level without losing all 3 of your lives. There are various ways to loses a live, you can run out of oxygen or get crushed by a falling block. Theres 4 different modes on the game 2500ft challenge, 5000ft challenge, survival mode and high scores (which isn't really a mode). On each of the levels there are crates dotted about which use up 20% of your oxygen if you break them. There are oxygen tanks which are often near crates and give you 20% more oxygen when used.

Graphics 7/10
Nice and cartoony.

Gameplay 9/10
Very fun and good to play on short journeys.

Sound 6/10
Repeated background music and sound effects. But the music fits with the game.

Durability 5/10
Lasts quite long but theres only a few levels which can be played through quite quickly. Although its good for a quick replay now and again.

--This rom runs fine with fGB32--

At what clock speed does it run as good as GameBoy Color? I am just asking because first off there is no found with the Wonderswan and the frame rate was extremly crappy.

I didn't think it was much better then the GBC version personally...

Thanks, I'll have to try that one on fGB32 later. Looks fun :). Regarding the WonderSwan emulator, are all roms Japenesse? I like the look of this emulator but because of the language, I haven't been able to start the games .

:)

Mr Driller although Japanese, is easy to play, although i don't think it is a s good as the GBC version, due to lack of sound.

tried both, GBC version runs okay in English with sound. how is it better on wonderboi, minus the sound?

I have this game on the pc and it's great. I will have to try the GBC version. Thanks for the review I didn't know of a GBC version only the GBA one.

Sweet thanks for the review! I love Mr. Driller on GBA but can only carry so many handhelds with me at one time (currently it's GP32 and PSP all the time) so have kinda been missing this great game... I never even knew there was a GBC version but now having this on my GP will be fantastic.

now if only there were GBC versions of my other two favorite GBA puzzle games, Kuru Kuru Kururin and Guru Logi Champ...

it's interesting that so many good games are variations on a basic theme. mr. driller is classic arcade action, and it's great we can play it on a GBC emulator.

what does the GBA or NDS version add? very little in my opinion! reselling the same game for a new system.

the opposite is game platforms like beats of rage. an engine for a tried and true formula and customization/new games left up to the community! slightly unfortunate, it's not open source so more features and tweaking could be undertaken.
