Nintendo The Leader!!! Take That Ya Sony Fanboys

actually now that you mention it Metroid Prime was better than Halo for me... Prime IMO is one of the best games ever, but I guess I dont think about it in the sense of FPS, it's really more of an action/adventure/exploration game I mean it really did feel like the earlier Metroid games to me just from a first person perspective.

Was the second one a good sequel? More fun or worse? If I ever get a cube metroid prime was going to be the main games I was going to get :)

Actually, believe or not I have yet to play Prime 2, though from everything I heard it was just as good if not better than the first one. There are SO many games that I've had to pass up this last few months including all the big Xmas season games... I've just had no time to play much of anything at home, and have been sinking all my money into PSP games, taking that and my GP to work so no time to play any thing else there either.

I still need to finish MGS 3, start GT 4, pick up Devil May Cry 3, Wargods, GTA:SA, Prime 2... god the list goes on and on....

read and weep

Nintendo has been the most profitable company, earning about $7 billion in operating income from fiscal 1998 to fiscal 2004, compared with about $4.5 billion for Sony (from its games division)

hhmm but Nintendo had Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Colour Pocket, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP and Game Cube

Sony only had the PSX and didnt get the PS2 out untill 2000 - 2001

The Sony PS2 Has been the biggest seller in stores in the UK (dont know about the rest of the world, didnt take much notice) for about 4 - 5 years now and when the Slim line PS2 was released, PS2 sales went Crazy again!!

Maybe Nintendo did make more money, but they had a more consoles / handhelds compaired to Sony

yeah this whole thing seems kinda bogus to me, PS 1's far outsold N64's, PS2's have far outsold Gamecubes, I know Nintendo had a lot of sales with GB's, GBA's and SP's and now the DS did pretty well at first at least (of course we all know PSP will probably sell far more as well) but I find it hard to believe Nintendo are making more money unless like someone mentioned that somehow it's not that they are SELLING more but actually making more profit than I guess that's possible.

Like I said I could care less as I love them all but it just does't seem to make sense.

FYI PS2 has thrashed the competition worldwide. I think it was in 2003 sony stated "The console wars are over" because they had such a ridiculous lead. While the Xbox and gamecube are in the 20 million mark from what I remember, they're up in the 80 million mark for the PS2. The PS1 sold 100 million. I really doubt Nintendo is making more money, but who cares? whats it got to do with the gamer?

Yes bast, nintendo do not sell more consoles than SONY

this is why SONYs revenue is far greater

Nintendo make all their money from publishing pretty much half of the Gamecube games, most of which sell excelently (more so in JPN than US and EU)

they also manufacture their consoles more efficiently

example:

the DS is selling for £99, nintendo is making a bt of a loss, but to recoup the costs of the console IIRC the DS owner need only buy 2 first party DS games

PSP on the other hand, if it retail in the UK for roughly £150 (slightly higher than US and JPN price) to make up the difference SONY will need to sell something in the region of 15 games (can't quite rememeber figures, it was in EDGE a few months ago)

its just a case of being more efficient and also not having to spend money on securing 3rd party publishers (like SONY do with Rockstar)

If you compaire the sales / money made with only these consoles -

Nintendo - N64 and GameCube
Sony - PSX and PS2

Then Im guessing Sony's Profits will be MUCH Higher than Nintendos... Hell the PS2's Price is almost still the same as it was 2 - 3 years ago which shows its still selling strong and theres no need for them to lower the price!

Yea I like Nintendo consoles, but Sony has defiantly been the King of Consoles for over 5 years and Im guessing they will remain teh king for a long time :)

I havent played very far into MP2 but I will say it's very much like the first game but with a few very cool suprises and a stronger narrative.

not to start a pc vs console debate
but
halo/2 used to be the only fps games i've played in a long time, and they are good games(used to play 1 on xbc/ 2 online as well), but recently i've been playing pc fps games since i've just hooked me up a choice pc, and, man, the fps games on pc just blew me away.
it may just be the graphics, but they seem so much better than xbox's halos. this made me wonder why halo2 got so much hype when there were better fps games

blah, whatever. i still play halo2 with friends, and i guess i'm just a sucker for sweet antialiased sharp visuals :D

Yup. FPSes are supposed to be better on PC.
But then, I despise mouse-and-keyboard setups, and I'm more of an arcade style gamer, so consoles suit me more.
gimme a keyboard and mouse anyday, can you use keyboard/mouse combo on consoles yet?
hopefully the next gen consoles do and then i'll use them as my main gaming platform instead of PC

Well considering the top of the line PC you would need to run current FPS's these days at anywhere near their full capability would require a SERIOUS outlay of cash, many times the cost of an Xbox, well of COURSE those games had better damn well look better!

Halo was NEVER well known for being a great looking game, even when it first came out, the graphics were dated by PC *AND* console standards.... and Halo 2 didn't really up the graphics by a whole lot... so yeah if you're going to argue on that alone damn right PC games win hands down. Look we all already know that PC's generally just have the FPS market covered and cornered and online play on consoles just isnt widely enough adopted as of yet for console FPS to really be any kind of major contender.... I think it's something like 1 out of 3 or 1 out of 4 consoles currently uses an online connection, whereas something like oh I dunno EVERY PC GAMER OUT THERE plays online? I think a lot of people still haven't adopted Xbox Live because of a) the extra fees involved in addition to your regular ISP fees, and B) a lot of people still havent made the move to broadband and for anyone who didn't know, Xbox can only use a broadband connection.

I think Sony has the better idea with most of PS2's online games being free, and no monthly service charge at all, as well as the PS2's network card supporting regular phone lines for 56k. Unfortunately the online lineup for PS2 has remained pretty weak with only a few key titles, the PS2 didnt ship with a built in online adapter until only recently, and compared to the features of Xbox Live, the Sony online features SUCK. I think this next generation they will finally get it right.

no kidding! ps2online sucks SO much. and playing against 56kers is horrible. the last time i played my ps2 online was with fifa04, and it was a damn slideshow!

Actually 56K support in the Uk was dropped on PS2, because 99% of us can get Broadband, it makes the experience a whole lot better.
