It said on teletext this morning that shortages in the US may push the UK launch back to September. As usual, we get shafted...

an article on psp.ign.com has pretty much confirmed that it will be well into spring before the psp is released over here. Potentially you could really be looking at may or june, thats if they even make Q2!

i think that us brits are going to ripped off incredibly and i wouldn't be surprised if we saw at £200 price tag on something that can be imported for a little over £100 from either the states or Japan.

what a load of crap i cant believe how much we get shafted so that the americans can get it 1st fair enough there's a lot more of them but how can sony not make enough are they completely stupid you'd think they'd have learnt from the Japan launch.

the muppets.

cheers for your help guys

I think we're looking at no earlier than June.

I'm starting the pool at June 24 with a price of £199 for the American-esque value pack.

As has been said before, there's very little reason why you guys in the UK shouldn't just go buy a Japanese PSP after the US ones are released. The price on them will obviously fall to around what they actually cost in Japan ($180-250), Japan and the UK share region 2 so you wont have any lockout issues, and you have the choice of whether to get the Value Pack or not, which us in the US do not... so you can save a fair bit of money if you don't want to pay the extra for accesories you might not use.

Frankly, it baffles me why anyone in the UK wouldn't have already bought a Japanese unit as they have already come down pretty low on Ebay last I checked, almost to 'regular' price... and with no region lockouts to worry about why not just pick one up early?

But the games which may be locked out will be, cos Japan is NTSC and UK is pal.

@ finty: AHEM! they say they may lock out games in the future

They could make a way to block it out though, you know they could, although if they want to make UMD an industry standard they will need to have some sort of guide lines.

LOL... UK PSP is PAL? :p

Anyways, I SERIOUSLY doubt they will do any kind of lockout for you UK guys... Still not even sure why this is a concern... it's been said 1000 times by sony that no games will have any kind of lockout, and if you're thinking of buying movies for the thing you are wasting your money. You can easily fit very high quality movies onto a 1gb card, near DVD quality, 1.5 hour movie takes up about 600-700MB.

I knew someone would bring up the warranty issue... look, for anyone who's really concerned about that... well you know, a crafty person ALWAYS has a way around that.. if Sony wont willingly warranty your system (because it's imported or for whatever reason), there's a little way that you can always make sure their screwed system gets back to them and you get a new one in return. My import system had a few issues with it... I guarantee you, soon after they became available in the US, I'd have gotten a new one to replace it, for free, and Sony'd be getting the first one back.

I'd go along with £199, probably with a demo disc or some kind of freebe.

Since they are aiming for the adult market I don't think they will worry about the DS being half the price, well in the UK at least, seems to be a diffrent story in asia/japan.

The UK is the same region as Japan, so i'd say stick to Jap imports and be careful of USA models.

And yes, I am also constantly asked if the PSP is PAL or NTSC... oh dear. I don't think people understand exactly what it means.

if sony are truly aiming at a different section of the market, does that mean the DS and PSP can peacefully coexist?

i'd guess not. sony want the handhjeld market. they're not just going for over-20's or whatever...

it *would* be quite nice... if sony were going for the 'adult' market... GTA's and manhunts ot whatever... leaving the marios and zeldas to the 'kiddie' machine... i suspect the market isn't that clear-cut though...

*forgot my point* *signing off*

I think PSP and DS will peacefully coexist. a) because there will always be parents out there who bite for Nintendos kiddy image, and would rather have their kids playing Mario than GTA (not to mention that they can get the DS so much cheaper), and B) enough of us gamers are old enough to remember all of Nintendos greats and will gladly still buy a DS or whatever else Nintendo comes out with because we know Nintendo will always have some good games, and c) they will always have Pokemon :p
