hi...

need a new USB lead - cant fnd one on net - GBAX sold out - two questions

1. Has anyone tried using a standard generic mini usb - like the one that comes with a digital camera?

2. did your GP32 blow up? did it work?

p.s have been kindly directed to software and info for card reader use - which will come soon (ebuyer) - but i want to make sure i still have a usb backup!!

do you mean the link cable? Well if the one for your digital camera fits into you GP32 id imagine that it would work. Id recommend that you just get a card reader, it's a lot faster than PClink.

Assuming you can find a SMC card reader that works. I've tried 3 and each have had minimal degrees of success. I guard my cord with my life because as far as I know you just cant get a replacement.

I think someone could probably make out like a bandit if they were able to build replacement cables.

I use a Microdia card reader. It's the first one I found, cost me only $15CAD, and it works like a charm. Highly recommended! :)

There's less hassle with a card reader, and it copies files a lot quicker...

Any SMC Card Reader / Writer should work.... When I got the FLU off Squidge It came with a SMC R / W and I have no idea what make it as as its just a circuit board (Seems like the case has been smashed off :p ) works perfectly..

If you have a Digital Camera that takes SMC Cards, use that to put your GP32 stuff onto the SMC

Be warned - the BLU (and presumably the blu +) use a different usb lead from the original models. So if you buy one you need the right lead

I only found this out the other weekend when I couldn't find my BLU cable and decided to use the one that came with my old FLU.

I just used a smartreader in the end - I seem to have had one free with just about everything I've ever bought from GBAX so it was no problem.

I wish it worked out that easy, In all the card readers I had, one worked well but it was a floppy disk converter and trying to fill a 128mb card at the speed of a floppy drive takes FOR~EV~ER. Another was a multi card reader which took 2 hours to give me an error message that it wouldn't read anything on my computer and another just flat out refused to recognize any of my cards even when the computer recognized the reader, on a couple of occasions it worked but never with more than one card at a time and then ceased reading again.

wow that's horrible luck. i just went to the swapmeet and picked up an el-cheapo multi card reader and powered hub in one so presumably it'll work with gplinux to and that's a bonus because i didn't realise it was a usb hub until i got home. it works perfectly for me.

Here's a link:

always wanted to ask this...

what exactly is a swapmeet? we dont get them in the UK.

a swapmeet is where people pay to have stores in a big hall and everything is cheap, the idea is that you trade hardware for hardware or whatever, comic for comic but in computer swapmeets that rarely happens and the majority of stores sell things new and you pay cash for them. You can often find things that are hard to find at normal retail stores aswell as get second hand parts or secondhand software or whatever

after mixing my cables up i put the gp32 usb into my digicam , nothing happened and the cam got extreamly hot , cam still works tho luckily.....

I lost my card reader, and started using another one. It often thinks there's no card in it, but while the dialogue box is up with it's "nothing there" message if I remove the card and reinsert it, it usually reads it fine from then until it's next removed.
