Future Drmd Release?

Well, I haven't gotten into the beta testing yet. I've only sent a donation today.

I always set my GP32 to 144, if I go higher it resets. But, ah well, I can't wait for a public release.

sweeeeeeeeet :D *goes back to looking forward greatly to future Betas WITH quick save/load button combo goodness*

Hey I don't usually beg but really that is one feature worth begging for.

I'm not sure Mega CD support is exactly impossible... Atleast for games that only have CD-Audio in difference to the cartridge version. MP3-players seem to manage the playback with small amount of MHZ, and, theoretically, all DRMD would need is a routine, that detects when something is supposed to be played from the CD, and then play the appropriate MP3. Or so I think. It may be all bollocks, may it?

Problem is Sega CD has a whole second 16 bit processor of it's own... a 68000 I believe. I know a LOT of sega CD games had cartridge versions that were identical but just with the CD music, so I'm not sure how the CD versions make use of that second processor at all, but I do know that most people who've worked on emulators have made it sound like Sega CD emulation is a real pain in the ass. Same for 32x emulation, though I guess that's a bit easier?

I think TG16 CD emulation is loads easier, Flubba even got this working on the gba :D and the Xbox TG16 emulator supports it just fine with MP3 music as opposed to .wav's. I'm not sure but I think the genesis/sega CD emu on Xbox also supports MP3 files.

I think it's more complicated than that as the Mega CD has extra processors and memory on board. That's how it could do sprite scaling and rotation.

kinda what I just said :D just with an extra s

but jarska still brought up an interesting question... what processors are doing what when playing one of the cartridge-turned-cd games? many of these games were EXACTLY like their cartridge counterparts with just better, cd streamed music. Some were enhanced though, like the kick ass driving sequences in Batman returns (owwwwwwwwwwnzzzz).

BTW... Wonderdog.... best Sega CD exclusive.... EVAR!

EDIT: (okay well Sonic CD was *probably* better but still Wonderdog was still a fantastic game)

You are right it is not impossible. It would work, at about frame skip 62 ;) Playing MP3s alone requires much of the GP32s CPU power. Now you want to emulate a MD while playing MP3s too? No way, forget it.

As much was stated. I pondered the feasability to add a MP3 player to DrMD...

Expand! DIVX! Flash! (aaaaaaa, savior of the universe?)

Everyone seems to wan't something to added to DrMD... Coul it brew coffee for me? Coffee good... :D

Yep it does amaze me. You've all used DrMD and you can already see it just about playable at the moment emulating just the basic genesis hardware, but somehow you think it will be able to emulate a completely different system..at the same time :). Users request do make me laugh sometimes.

Does not the C64 diskdrive have additional 6502 processor in it? Anyone know, if frodo, or others, actually emulate that too, or if dd is just "simulated"?

Just curious, it's a "bit" less powerfull than 68000.... :)

Yeah I have seen some of the requests here and many are quite bizzare. That is why you just have to do it the way *you* want to. I like the direction you are going with DrMD.

First off you are talking about a 1 MHZ 8-bit 6502 not a 7Mhz 16 bit 68000. BIG difference. Plus notice how Frodo *slows down* when you turn on 1541 emulation? Hmmmmmm?

Hence the "" around "bit". Just something I thought I remembered from -80's... And for once, remembered right. :D So it does emulate the 15... what was it? 1511?

On the C64, enough is known that you can emulate either two 6502's, *or* a single 6502, and patch the rom to handle the drive directly in software (much faster). However, not all games are compatible with this, so some have to use a 2nd processor emulation which of course slows things down.
