Flu Or Blu? Need Some Detail Questions Answered

The glass screen mod is in no way necessary. The plastic screen is extremely durable (very unlike the easily scratched, thin GB/GBA screen cover). Apparently glass screens improve how good the screen looks, but I don't know. The BLU screen is already the best screen I've seen on a handheld, so I see no reason to take the risk, personally.

Congrats on your purchase. You won't be disappointed.

No doubt I do WANT a card reader...

How long does it take to 'fill up' a 128MB SMC using the gp32 as the writer? I'm used to flashing my GBA cart which takes about 5 mins for 32MB. 20 mins for 128mb is gonna suck :p but then again that's not USB but rather, serial port so, hopefully writing on the GP32 is faster? Well... if worse comes to worse... I dont think it's gonna be like my gba where I'm changing games on the card all the time... just put my emus on there for the GP and I should be done.

Any good tips on where to get a card reader for cheap? Lik sangs are like $20... like you said, it's already adding up to quite a bit.

What about an AC adapter? GP32 has a port for one right? Is it compatible with old gba adapters or any other common adapters? It wouldn't be a problem to just leave it plugged in while flashing.

Glad to hear the screen is more durable than a GBA at least... had to replace mine about 3 times in a year, even being very careful with it. Until I got that fold down cover/light accesory for it and could leave the screen covered. Wish there was some kind of screen cover for the GP at least... or can I use like a PDA screen protector maybe, that would cover the whole thing? anyone using one of these?

It only takes about 5 minutes or less to fill up a 128 M card. AC adapters are more tricky than you think. If they are not real good your screen can waver due to ripple in the voltage. I would just use those IC3 15 min recargeables. The plastic screen *is* terrible. It smudges real easy and is almost impossible to remove these streaks and smudges due to some crappy coating they put on it. To replace the screen with glass all you have to do is pull off the grey frame and switch them. You don't have to take it apart or anything to do it.

....setup is a bitch but after you get thru once then it's done forever. YYayy!!

Setup? what setup? I remember I just took it out of the box, put in batteries and started playing it. That was pretty easy. I didn't even need to format a card as they all come pre-formatted out of the box.

oh okay... well 5 mins isn't so bad to fill up a full 128MB card... like I said I'm used to that for filling up my 32MB GBA flash cart, and it's never bothered me, and I do reflash that thing pretty often. And I"m pretty sure I WONT be reflashing my SMC very often... but even if I do 5 mins is no big deal. But then out of curiosity, how fast does a regular card reader (like the one Lik Sang sells) flash a 128MB card? I mean... 5 mins isn't that long to me (I was expecting you guys to say 20 mins or something) so for you all to say the reader is like a night and day difference, it must be less than a minute for it to flash? To be honest I've already placed an order for a card reader as well... you guys had me sold! But if the time difference isnt really significant I still have time to cancel the order....

Also, about the plastic screen smudging and stuff. Do you guys try to clean them with any cleaner? I have glasses, and the spray and silk rags they sell you for cleaning your glasses, have worked great for also keeping my portable systems screens clean and scratch free. If something gets on them and you try to clean without some kind of cleaner though, or just try to steam it up with my breath, those smudges NEVER want to come off. Just wondering if this is why you experienced this. As long as the plastic cover is no worse than what is on the gba/sp. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

or will I  Lik Sang has not even PROCESSED my order yet or charged me or anything, now 2 days later. So much for their 'usually ships within 24 hours' tagline... another misleading statement on their website. I knew it was going to be delayed somehow. This sux a LOT for me as the GP32 is the system I have most looked forward to recieving and been the most anxious about since I preorderd my japanese dreamcast back in '98. MAN I want this thing to be here already!

I hope they make up for it by sending me one that can go to 166mhz :D I know I'm just kidding...... I know it's random but still... ship the damn thing out already bastards!

weir

Weird. I ordered my FLU 4 hours ago and it now says order processing whatever that means o_O changed from order recieved.

Edit: Now Processing Order - I just had a thought they probably don't work on Weekends that's why your order took a while ^_^ Logical really, i'm slow on the uptake at times

Well, I ordered my BLU around week ago (hope it will arrive today), and my CC was charded and order shipped within 24 hours. So hold your horses for a while :)

Don't think of an SMC being like a gba flash cart, you don't need to wipe it clean then fill it up again. Think of it being like a floppy disk where you can delete a couple of files you don't need and add a few new ones. If you aren't copying movies, it is pretty rare that you will ever copy over 128MB at one time. On average it will only take a couple of seconds to write one fxe with a card reader, and it's not too much more than that with the usb cable, so you don't really need a card reader for a lot of stuff (but it's still very nice to have). The times when it becomes invaluable are for large files (eg. quake .pak's and movies), or if you are a developer (much easier to quickly test and to modify data files).

Non-lit = 100% in sunlight
FLU = 90% in sunlight

If the Non-Lit = 100% in Sunlight, then The FLU should = 100% in Sun Light :p... the FLU is realy just a Non Lit but with a built in light :)

Well they are the same, but the Flu has a light guide over the front of the LCD which cuts down on the amount of sunlight that shines on the screen . Which in turn causes the screen to be a little darker than the non-lit.
