Im also got some issue whit steaming up my eyeglasses, but you get used to it after a while..
Also there are divirent thicknesses on Buffs, i have one whit high UV Blocking, and another one who is a bit thinner..
Could be that my Neck is this year free from sunburn ^^, Also due to my Fingerless Bycicles Glows, my Fingers god brown, but my Hands are white ^^

Something pretty horrible I noticed today, and didn't realise was a thing until I searched for it, but I had noticed a few dead pigeons recently. Saw today one was being attacked by a couple of gulls.

Our cultural habits of throwing food and rubbish everywhere brought the gulls here to begin with, and with fast and convenience food being in limited supply, the gulls are turning elsewhere.
The large numbers of pigeons found in cities were relying on rubbish too, so most likely pigeons are also dying of starvation.

As far as I see (and hate), pigeons rely to grannies who feeds them, creating huge flocks that shits everywhere in the area, blocks water tubes and chimneys on the roofs and makes a lot of noise when walking on metal objects around the house... lately they became so confident walking even on the streets that they don't even fly away when cars are coming...
I'm at the point that I started to not brake anymore when some of them comes in front of my car... the first time I did that I killed one of them... it went straight under the wheel without even try to fly or run away... now they are learning, at least when they see my car.

Even without people to feed them, pigeons would still be able to find enough scraps and discarded food to survive, though probably in lower numbers.

I've been told that in Paris, when the number of pigeons go down (due to measures taken by the city like neutering pigeons), the number of rats go up, since they'll benefit from the resources the pigeons no longer take. I've also been told that rats are actually useful in some cases. For example they'll eat waste that would otherwise clog the sewers.

So as usual with ecosystems, "regulation" is always more complex than it seems.

And the Darwin Award goes to ...

Either you're joking or you're messed up. Do you also kill the old ladies who feed the birds?

Once I could, because a pidgeon landed in front of my car and I had to turn fast, making the car in the other lane turn too and risked to go against some pedestrians.
Nothing bad happened that day, but looking at that pidgeon that was still walking on the street while all the people aggregated to see what was happening, I took a decision, if they want to stay in city, they must learn... at least cats and dogs knows that is bad to stay in the streets... I can understand a cat that doesn't take good measures for a run, but I just hate a pigeon that lands in front of a running car like nothing is happening.

Did you try the horn? I think that's preferable to killing them. Or does scaring them away with the horn not satiate your lust for revenge?

Yeah, as if the horn worked... they didn't even fly away if you kick them !! They expect you give them food if you come closer !! Last times I tried they put the beak in my pockets...
Listen, I'm not a psycho, and I don't like this kind of things, but I don't to live in a safari or rural county, it's a city, people pay attention when crossing roads, birds must learn to do the same, as in the old times when I was young, when them were scared by everything.
It's a human fault to having let them become so confident and SO MANY... nature rules are clear, there must be some kind of number control, in cities they don't have enemies except for cats, but they have a lot of food and safe hiding places.
Many years ago some procedures were taken by the government, and an open season for pidgeon hunting was open... it suddely helped a lot... but then animal activists came and stopped everything... after years now roofs are full of those things...

And anyway this is OT.

We don't get feral pigeons round here very often. When they do turn up I try to spray them with my water bottle when I see them. They don't like that, even though it's the same stuff they get covered in when it rains. I let wood pigeons and doves come and eat the food we put out for them (and the jackdaws, magpies and the occasional jay, as well as all of the smaller songbirds), but those feral pigeons are common enough in town, we don't need them up here. Every year, the young feral pigeons visit for the first time, but they soon learn.

So must children, Please do not start killing those whenever they do not look out.

What do you know about nature rules? You live in a city and you are probably much more pampered and removed from nature than those pigeons are. A city boy could learn about nature rules by watching the pigeons and how they survive without heated homes and convenience stores.
And number control? Humans are overpopulating the cities much more than pigeons are and are causing much more damage to the environment than pigeons as well. So it seems a bit hypocritical to kill those pigeons for overpopulating the city while in reality the one overpopulating the city is you.

This is NOT OT, unluckily

Even an apex predator would move aside, when something that much bigger comes their way. And don't tell me, that creatures of flight wouldn't have a good sense of distance, velocity, and direction. Which I did not as a child, and thus didn't dare to jaywalk, though I wanted to. With the latter I'm saying, I'm aware that children lack that sense of movement and timing. But birds don't.

Are you accusing PowerGod of lying? He's not known as a regular bullshitter and there's always the possibility he was mistaken, but I'd have thought something like a pigeon to become quite sticky when crushed, so he'll have had the prise some of it off his tyre and potentially bodywork.

@levi If you were adressing me, I was rather talking to lambda, saying with the pigeon's behaviour is something wrong. And that got it killed. And I don't think PowerGod expected that.

At 50 km/h is difficult that something so small will stick to the tire, and I didn't even felt I was over it until I had a look at the back mirror.
They became fearless like this because all the cars, for years, just payed attention, evaded them, and also thrown residual of foods from the window... so streets became not only full of foods but also safe... anyway there's a point when a car can't just immediately stop in 2 meters... those birds at some point in time just came to conclusion that cars are not a danger, and they really need to learn this again.

I watch pigeons living under hour heated roofs, they have free food also in winter, and no enemies to fear... they unlearned their nature, and became kings.
I bet that a city pigeon will never be able to survive outside the city.

Just like city humans. In fact, humans are the ones who destroyed nature to build the city in the first place and who prevent nature from taking back the city. So if you want to hate an entire species for disconnecting from nature hate humans.

I never told I hate pigeons... also, I don't know why I'll have to hate an entire species for something that happens where I live... seems to me you are overreacting.
