Mostly i lurk. Today I'm hunting. I collect old computers and video games and hobbies of various sorts. I wonder if anyone here has anything interesting they're looking to offload? I cant really say exactly what I'm after, but im certain it could be categorized as "electronic oddity"

I have a viliv n5 or a zipit z2 running Linux. Both pretty odd. Well takeme a few months to sell though if you are interested since my stuff is in transit to Japan where I'm moving.

Tbh: I hate the viliv keyboard. The zipit is interesting, got dosbox working.

That does sound interesting, though months away is a bit of a drag

Sorry man, I will send you a message once I get my stuff and if you are interested we can work it out...if not no worries

I do concider the enTourage eDGe an electronic oddity that is still pretty useful. Not planning to sell mine, but currently for sale on ebay and very cheap.

How about a Tandy WP-2 Word Processor? I actually used a Tandy WP-3 as my main computer through the first year of university... in 2006...

I still have that WP-3 and very fond off its odd Word Processor software. Only difference with the WP-2 (which I bought as a back-up) is WP-2 is US dictionary, WP-3 is Canadian/British.

It has a fantastic thesaurus, pretty good clicky keyboard, surprisingly usable screen, and the battery life is to die for. You will need a null-modem cable for serial file transfers because the SD-card reader released for it a decade ago (yes, people were still making things for these machines) is now out of production. Plays nicely with the better class of printer (via centronix-to-USB, printer needs to support raw text).

Can put it in the post for you in a day or two. Make an offer if you're interested.

I used to have a Chumby, and occasionally I regret getting rid of it. In retrospect it might have been fun to mod it. It was definitely an oddity.

A couple more options for you:

I would recommend getting an HP 200LX or 100LX. They're common enough on eBay but still pretty exotic nowadays.

They come with an almost complete MSDOS 5.0 and an 8088 compatible processor but fit in your pocket and run for weeks on AA batteries. LX palmtops also use standard PCMCIA flash cards so data exchange with a modern PC is easy.

They also have a very nice DOS GUI addon called System Manager that has a great calculator app and appointment book software (there are features it has that I've still never seen decades after its 1991 release). There are other apps like text editing, spreadsheets, and databases as well which are decent enough.

They also can charge NiCad batteries so running them is very economical if you buy the charger.

LXes spawned an ecosystem that was very vibrant decades after the fact and still continues to a lesser extent even today. I highly recommend one if you want some esoteric PC system that's not very expensive.
