ZX Vega +

Well, I didn't have time to read the full post, but I could give a reply to that one ;)

Also, since when are users forced to comment on everything?
I always thought you are free to comment on what you like and don't comment if you don't want to say something about that :)

If anybody should know how much this Vega+ affair is *toxic* for their own project(s), it should be you.
Just to remind you of one similarity :
Craigix used your name for iCP2 crowdfunding exactly the same way as Levy used Andrews (at IGG).
Moreover, one of the "crew" here (he knows who he is) defended Vega+ at fb with something like: "at least, Vega+ is here, Pyra is nowhere near..."

I mean, you *have to* actively distance from that, because Pyra, Gemini, TheC64 etc are viable projects - unlike Vega+, Atari VCS, iCP2 etc scams.
I'm not sure are you aware of scale of that bs (to come!).

Whatever, suit yourself.
Greetz to jolly army of trolls... ❤️

Well, but the difference is: he's actually a registered director of the company, so he IS involved.
I never was officially part of any ICP2 company.

Actually no, he resigned right before campaign. He is just a shareholder.

Once when Pyra is ready, I want you to find *real*, serious investors, to start serious production.
If Gemini did, Pyra should do the same.
Just, beware of the scale / numbers:
Pyra is 5x expensive then Vega+. There are 4+K ppl burned with V+ (£500K+), and retro market is limited.
I do understand that Pyra vs V+ is like Space Shuttle vs toy; anyway.
You can't erase the history of Pandora & iCP2.
I'm not the only one getting the pattern: Vega>Vega+, iCP>iCP2... Pandora>Pyra ! (yes, it looks like that!).
Some people like to be burned (obviously), some are just "unrealistic" (to be polite),
...but we're not all fish (>recollection). Nor you're dolphin... ;)

The inspiration behind the Pandora was 99% retro emulation as I recall, but in practice in owning one (made by EvilDragon after rescuing my order with a certain man near Middlesborough), I've turned out to spend much more time playing new open source games on it, using linux networking tools on it to transfer podcasts, then listening to them on the move, or editing the odd document. For a keyboard that was only really added so that we could emulate Amiga as I recall, I've ended up mostly using it for everything else.

As for the Pyra, with it being more powerful and with a more modern OS I expect to use it for even more general computer stuff to be honest. And I'm not burned by any money I put in to this project, while it'd have been nicer for progress to have been smoother, and to have my Pyra already, it's been fascinating to follow the project through the thick and thin.

With a bit of luck you'll have retail pyras before this time next year, and things should be looking a lot more rosy especially with the sudden injection of cash from pre-orderers paying the balance to get their units. I wouldn't be so keen on getting VC cash and renting a big new factory and paying dozens of people to assemble Pyras - I'm glad that mine will be a more boutique and crafted item, assembled by people who care about it.

Well, Pyra is only so expensive for the first units, as we need to cover development costs and as we couldn't afford it otherwise.
With some investors, these could be compensated. The Pyra could be sold for 400 EUR as well if we don't have to take the production costs into account.

Still avoiding the subject :D

I always thought you're more HM guy... well then:

I don't even know what you're talking about...?

The subject is the Vega+
I don't have anything to add to the Vega+ that's not already publically known. And I've got nothing to say which I haven't said before.
So what do you want to hear?

Or can anyone explain to me what I'm missing here?

(un)official statement from OpenPandora GmbH regarded to RCL business practice.
It means that e.g. DragonBox would not / should not sell gadgets from company that stole money dedicated to sick children, do not pay IP royalties to authors of games (since 1st Vega!), does not release modded source code of FUSE... last but not least, swindled thousands of backers.
Additionally, Pyra is, unlike Vega+, ... (finish yourself).

You don't have to do it because of me of course. I'm not a backer / interested investor.
Just:
Right now I'm looking at more then 100 (!) hate posts (FUD) from same troll, related to TheC64/Mini, at Lemon. He is a member there for a less then a year. And, he's not alone.
Now prepare yourself for a birth of Pyra. I'm not sure about jolly fellowship here, would it be enough to defend it from "unfair competition".
You should be more proactive about that mess, make moves in advance, imho.
But this is just my thinking, words that are trivial.
You know better.

I don't think ED is planning to stock the Vega+ even if it ever comes to market. He's already pulled from sale various devices that break the GPL or other licenses.

If someone else makes an ARM device with a full keyboard, then the competition would probably be welcome here - we already have subcommunities using the various GPD devices (although they usually die when GPD drops support for the device in question) and even a few people still using old JXD, GWD, and GPH devices. Even a few people are using Planet Computer devices, and ED hasn't got those for sale in his shop yet I think. But I'm not convinced anyone could make something with all of the benefits that the Pyra has; upgradeable hardware, twin full sized SD cards plus a micro SD none of which stick half out-half in of the unit, a modern updated Linux operating system, 4G modem, and other stuff I can't remember right now for much cheaper than ED can do, and in my eyes he's already proven himself to be a good man that I'm happy to support when I can.

I can see how his name at one point being attached to the ICP2 project makes you suspicious of him, and it's true to say he was probably naive of that man's intent and abilities at least twice, but he learnt his lesson and has had nothing to do with him since then.

Are you going to demand ED puts out a statement related to the PGS as well? What about all the other scam/vapourware devices that have been spoken about on this forum?

Of course not, hence why you're demanding a statement about something unrelated to ED.

Yes... and?
That's nothing you should need to state, that's what's a given.

I never even planned to sell the Vega+... and I've been helping RetroBit a bit to get the SuperRetrocade out with properly licensed emulators...
So should I make a statement for every device out there that exists that has a license issue that I won't sell it...?

I pulled the GP2X out of my webstore (my ONLY product I sold back then) until the sourcecode had been released, and I stopped selling the RetroN5 after the license issues were known (I just sold the remaining stock).

But making statements about other products I don't even really care about...?

Additionally, Pyra is, unlike Vega+, ... (finish yourself).

... is a totally different product, like millions of others out there?

But move to WHAT?
I don't even see an issue here. There will always be trolls, there will always be other products who are shady or not, there will always be Kickstarter/IGG projects that fail for various reasons.

Commenting on all that doesn't make any sense at all in my opinion.

I can see how his name at one point being attached to the ICP2 project makes you suspicious of him, and it's true to say he was probably naive of that man's intent and abilities at least twice, but he learnt his lesson and has had nothing to do with him since then.

No, I wasn't naive TWICE. The OpenPandora was enough for me.

All I did was offer my service as a company to handle the production at GC. I was never involved in the company nor did I ever allow to use my name on the campaign (he just used it without telling me and removed it when I demanded that).
So: They send me the finished design files, I'll get a quotation, send them an invoice and they send me the payment and I'll handle the production.

It's basically like saying that GC is involved in the Pyra. They're not. They're just a company which I hired to produce it. It was the same for me with the iCP2, except that they used my name without permission there.

BTW: I still have 3000 iCP2 PCBs lying around... with all of the parts (except for the batteries, which I sold) :/

They don't take a lot of space. I can make a picture of them.
thanks, naaa you don't have too, I was just surprised that you still have these boards. :)

can't you sell them as DIY boards or are they missing too many components?

Can backers of the ICP2 like myself , get one of those with all the parts?

I know as a backer of the ICP2, I wouldn't mind getting one, at least it would reduce the loss we incurred and give us something for our backing

Well, technically I don't own them, so I can't do anything with them :/
Also, they're not populated, so you'd need to do that yourself.

Who owns them - Link technically?. Can you ask if it's ok with him, I'm sure he'd be ok with it as they really are the backers assets since it all went tits up?

I'm fine with doing the population myself

BTW, I presume the battery sale cash was part of the money we got back in partial(25%) refunds?

I was a backer too and would love to get one that i could assemble myself, but I understand why ED just cant hand them out cause it's technically still craigx that owns them isn't it?
