Gp64 Wish List

I would like to see a GP64 that is comparable to the PSP and N-DS in power and backward compatible. I don’t think it will ever happen, but a machine with that sort of power and open-source community would be great.

You can get pretty big memory cards its just they aren't used by the gp32. They keep the cost down- a hard drive would add a lot to the cost.

I'd want-
More buttons.
A d-pad.
No non-flu version

It should use multimedia discs or UMD's. It should be able to play the regular things like snes and genesis and gba with proper speed and sound but it should also be able to play n64 roms perfectly. And throw in a touch screen for ds compatibility

SD cards (Dual Slot)

Internal 802.11 module

Touchscreen

600mhz ARM9 Processor

A-B-C-D Buttons, L + R Buttons: All analogue with click digital ala the GC

Start & Select.

Eight Way D-Pad: Analogue Or Digital

TV-Out

128mb RAM/ROM

Sturdy Case: would allow the connection of the ericsson (or gamepark) chat board, could either angle the GP64 for use on a table or allow for normal upright use.

I would like to see a processor using the ARM1176JZ(F)-S Core(it has a built in Floating Point Coprocessor for 3d performance and can clock from 350 -550 Mhz). Also Id like to see 64Mb of RAM, SD or Compact Flash cards used instead of SmartMedia. Maybe a 5 inch TFT screen with backlight and a resolution of 640 X 480(Id settle for a lower resolution though). And Maybe a 3d accelaration chip if it would make the already huge price(it would cost a fortune) too much larger but might be overkill especially for batteries. Included Lithium Ion battery that provides 12 hours of power would also be nice =)

Edit: Didnt close a ( )

It should still use "standard" memory cards - I think compact flash would be good, as this could also allow support for microdrives (which I believe still have higher capacity than flash cards.) Although SD would also be good.

Backwards compatibility would be a must. Also, as others have said, more buttons would be appreciated - there should be at least 2 extra front buttons to make controls for SNES games better. If we're going for N64 emulation, there should of course be an analogue stick as well as the D-pad. In fact, why not go the whole hog and have full-speed PS1 emulation? This would need an extra couple of triggers, but would probably be feasible as a full ISO could fit onto a memory card. And, of course, the usual improved processor/memory/graphics capability....

I know this is just a wish list, but aren't these expectations a little too high? I think I'd be content with a slightly more powerful, yet compatible processor (so all the hard work devs have done will still work on the newest console), maybe some kind of graphics card, SD or CF slot, maybe a touch screen (but probably not). Throw this in the current case, and you have a cheap, yet effective upgrade to the GP32 for both us and those at GamePark.

why everybody asking for so much...
just give the GP32 more RAM (64M or 128M would be enough) and a GFX custom chip with 16M capable of 3D and it would already be cool
ARM920T is a good CPU but with FPU that would be better :)
Maybe a newer release of this CPU with FPU integrated and clocking @ 266MHz

then you can add 2 buttons so that will look as a SNES pad (with a big screen :p)
SMC was good because cheap but now too slow and too short
Maybe compact flash or MMC/SD are OK (Microdriv 1G would be awesome)

I think that all that should be changed

Just keep in mind that having a lot of power is good but without a great comunity as the GP32 scene then that power is useless

see you

the SD slot(S) should be fully SDIO compatible(unlikemydamntreo600) then you could have bluetooth and wireless without having them built in

the firmware should have gpdrive, gpcinema, a jpeg/gif/html viewer and mp3/ogg player already installed plus you shouldnt have to create all the directories on the card

standardising componets for overclocking would also be nice because then developers would know the limits of the machine before designing emulators

separate graphics chip, backlight and the 2 extra buttons are also essential

i think touchscreen would be pretty nifty for games like civ and dungeon master but then you need a stylus and thats a pain - having said that this would virtually negate the need for a keyboard (ala sony p900 mobile phone).

sd card slot
touch screen with stylus
pull out keyboard membrane
64 mb ram
300mhz + arm cpu
fully backward compatible with gp32
backlit
2 more buttons
tv out
palm os or windows ce compatible

windows ce compatible
sorry this brings up an offtopic question
on dreamcast it says compatible with windows ce
is it really

i like to see a large internal hd
more buttons
hefty video card
and speed
and another freelauncher

pretty much the same as anyone else

but i would also like to see tons of devs to adopt it

so bassically a dream handheld

Reasonable wish list:
233mhz ARM9 CPU
32mb Ram
Touchscreen
SD card slot
4 Face Buttons
2 GBA-like trigger buttons (Don't have to be pressed down as much)
Same GP32 Joystick
Fixed Stereo Speakers

While that list is reasonable, it's hardly an improvement. The current GP32 can over clock to 220Mhz max so a 13Mhz increase would not be that great. The RAM would be nice though. I also think that it should have a small GPU (around 4mb).

Not everyone can OC that high, though. And then we could OC starting from that 233. It's actually a good improvement.

Intel Xscale cpu (ARM/StrongARM compatible).
Compact Flash and/or PCMCIA.
Dedicated sound chip and hardware mp3 codec.
Hardware framebuffer with own memory or simple 3d chip like an ATI rage 3d.
64mb main memory.
An area of persistent storage (like EPROM on Palms/Zaurus etc.) for common apps.
Battery backed real time clock.

All cheap commodity items... someone knock one together ;-)
