Any Zodiac Ownwers Here?

man i wish everyone would stop posting "this is in the wrong topic" n shit like that - that all i seem to here these days.... the guy is asking a simple question on a forum
he is happy to post on.

yes i have both gp and zodiac - snes on zodiac is simpy stunning - a lot of games run nr full speed (Frame Skip 1) with sound - some are still very slow - eg.  pilot wings - usually the more intensive games.

crono trigger is also nr perfect - also, the genesis is nr perfect without sound - some run well with sound som like a dog.

one good thing is the screen - its size (the emus run full screen with a nice smoothing filter) and its clarity - because its BLU its display is stunning - nice flat colour - and its touch screen

battery life is ok - not brilliant - i get on average - 4-6 hours depending on what apps i am using.

overall it makes the gp look like a kids toy - no offence fellow gp'ers - its just the truth. i love my gp, but after the playing with the zodiac it just shines quality compared to the gp.

however, the gp does have a better emu support in the way of frodo, speccy etc - so if you prefer playing these then stick to the gp. if snes, genesis, pc engine rock your boat...get a zodiac - and go for the zodiac2 (128mb of ram) as its more future proof in the way of more hefty emu's (neo geo cd has been batted about quite a lot - who knows)

hope this helps - sorry if this is full of typos : )

Right now with the SNES emu yes, the Zodiac version SHOULD run nicely as it has the brand new ASM core in it. Yoyofr has stated that the GP32 version of the SNES emu will soon be updated to the new ASM core as well (it is now in "C"), so the GP32 version should see a speed boost as well. Only then I think it will be fair to compare them. I would expect the Z to still have the edge but I bet the GP32 will be pretty damn good too.

As for the smoothing filter, the Zodiac NEEDS the smoothing filter. Because the screen resolution doesn't match SNES/Genesis very well at 1:1 it must be scaled up on the Z. When it is scaled up it quite honestly looks like shit, it is all distorted. So the smoothing filters out the distortion. This makes the screen look a little fuzzy, but it doesn't look bad.

The GP32 screen resolution of 320 x 240 pretty much matches the SNES/Genesis almost perfectly at 1:1 (has VERY slight borders on the sides for SNES, Genesis it is pretty exact). So it is very sharp on the GP32, no scaling or filtering is even needed.

GP32 == Zodiac
no, GP32 is way better than the Zodiac, sure it has "3D" games, but does it have a divx player?
NOPE!
actually you can remove the " "" " Stunt Car Extreme is as 3d as they come, i know some elitist will tell me its technically not but doomii looks pretty 3d as well to me!

hehe, that is the best argument ever! do you even know what a zodiac is
Stunt car is totally 3D and everything is made with true polygons. The problem is It is choppy and has a poor framerate. There is also quite a bit of "pop-up" as well. I know, I have it. All of the current 3D stuff on the Zodiac is very dissapointing. The X-forge engine really needs work, It was made with multiplatform in mind so it can be used on cell phones and other PDAs etc.

Oh well! Hopefully this thread will die now...if stupid people like myself didn't keep bumping it.

cant.....resist.....posting.... :D

i myself love the gp32 ^^
it's "the linux of handhelds" (someone had the same thought as i and wrote this in gp-zine ^^)
i really am jealous of the zod having that much power..
but seeing how open the gp32 is, no licensing-shit by gamepark or sth. like that (they dont even complain about custom firmwares; i mean, isnt it someway illegal to have their bios-code in there? but heck, they're nice enough to dont care about it :D ) and also the good community ^^

weighting this against the built-in-not-so-easy-removable li-ion-akku of the zod (i have 4AAs which i really use a lot :D, sometimes i also use my mobile's liion-akkus ^^) there are still the very limited 128mb of smc-space, the little support for 32/64mb-mod (why does nobody update their emus? ^^) and the little 166mhz cpu without h/w-acclearation supporting it, i think nobody can tell me that one of them is better at all
they both have true pros and cons (will zodiac ever go linux? or is there already a pda-linux that supports zodiac? anyone? ^^")

just depending on what type of person you are you either need a gp32, a zodiac or both of them
