The best thing about it, I thought up a very similar game after playing Blastars Arkano, but since I suck at programming, I wasn't able to do it. :p
I have some suggestions (mostly from my game idea, but you could make them for real :D ),
For the shooting system, how about a Blazing Star like approach?
Mashing the button results in normal bursts, holding the button brings up a strong beam-like attack, which can then be turned into one big attack pressing L (shield)at the loss of the charge function for some seconds.
And how about a story mode, where you can intercept incoming transmissions with R? What about a wild mix of horizontal/vertical shooting, using Mode 7 to switch between them (sorry, getting ahead of myself, but think how cool it would be to turn the GP before a boss battle or at a new stage  )
If I can help you in any way without programming ( thinking up Enemy waves and a good point system, pixeling (or modelling in 3d max) more enemies or End bosses, writing up a story etc.) contact me, I would really like to help making this game a classic.

So Mucho Kudos for this game, I claim the title of "first Take me to the clouds above Fan" B)

Agreed whole heartedly.

I was just mentioning on #gp32, efnet, that this game has got what it takes to be brilliant. Hell it's already addicting enough to me!

With a little bit more work, better sound, some better stages perhaps, this could be the best shoot-em-up to ever grace the GP32, and i'm really not kidding.

I like the system aswell. Shooting enemies raises your shield gauge. Use the shield to go through those impossible moments.

Oh so true. I'd love to see powerups and the odd "gap in the clouds" background going past - possibly with water, or a jungle or whatever below. This game has the potential to be commercial, its so fun...

What i'd recommend above anything is an Ikaruga type super weapon.

How it is at the moment with the shield is brilliant. I love that.

But, what about a second meter... All bullets caught in the shield raise the meter, when it's full you can unleash a barrage of homing lasers and clear all the bullets on the screen at the same time.

Sounds cool - an Ikaruga/Mars Matrix hybrid mechanic of sorts.

I'd like to see variable forms, rRootage style:

Idea A: 'default' mode. Same as current.

Idea B: 'Mars Matrix/gravity bomb' mode: a special meter refills every 10 seconds; when maxed, suctions and absorbs all onscreen bullets, and releases a 360-degree blast proportional in strength to the number of bullets absorbed. Standard shot is weakened slightly to offset the suction bomb's advantage.

Idea C: 'Psyvariar/buzz' mode. Coming as close as possible (i.e. within a few pixels) to any bullet raises a special meter, which provides a few seconds of temporary invincibility when maxed. L-trigger serves as a 'brake', cutting the ship's movement speed in half for more precise movement.

Idea D: I actually play the game before making these suggestions. :p

rRootage is a quality game. :)

Psyvariar is an absolutely amazing shoot-em-up. I've got Psyvariar II for the Dreamcast and although it's too short, it kicks all ass known to man. If there is a Psyvariar mode though you're going to need a hell of a lot more bullets. The whole idea behind the Buzz system was so you could break into a spin, hit that first invunerability and dive straight into wave after wave of enemy fire. If there were enough bullets filling the screen you could constantly buzz and stay invincible for the entire round!

((Stage 3, Psyvariar II. I actually managed that :)))

well, thx for the comments and the feedback!
I had in mind cancelling any further work because I don't have a sound mixer nor the skill to do one. and I really need one. so gfx are still an issue here, too.. well we will see what will hapen as I am going to release some new tutos first...

you can also use L as shield, this was a last minute feature no noted in the readme.

HINT: to get the easter eggs aka boobies just read the readme carefully

This game rocks! I a bit easy, I finished it 2 minutes after downloading it but lots of fun! I wish there was more ;)
