like mobile phones do.
theyre usually hinged at one side so you can open it, insert the card and cover it back up again. stops dust getting in, which is especially useful when the slot has no card in it.

will the pandora have these or not?
sorry if its already been asked, i tried searching and failed.

In the event that they don't include this feature, I will soon be taking pre-orders on this indispensable accessory:

Umm.....why would it be empty? I don't plan on removing my card once it goes in, unless to put stuff on it....which would be wha, like 10 mins at the most?

There are two slots though. Even with a card in, you're bound to get some dust/fluff in there unless it's a really tight fit.

the slot on most pocketable devices has a rubber stop which covers it even when there is a card in there. like mobile phones for example. even with an sd card inserted, there is still a big enough gap to let dust and whatnot inside the machine - especially when you keep the thing in your pocket.

i'll assume from the responses that the answer to my question is 'no' then.

As cheap as SD cards are these days and considering how many I already have, I just plan to keep a card in each slot.

And dustproof them with a liberal application of super glue around the edges.

I may actually end up using a really large SD card as 'permant storage' in one SD slot, and use the other slot for SD cards from my other devices&gadgets. That's why I love 2 slots anyway - it frees up an SD socket. With just a single slot you have to remove the "normal" card if you want to e.g. copy files from the camera card.. and where to copy them then? :)

So I suspect that I may leave the second slot 'open' a lot of the time, or some of the time at least. Thus, the OP's question is spot on.

Seriously, is a bit of dust going to affect the performance of an SD slot?

I never had any concerns about dust on my GP2X, my digicam (door broke off), MP3 player, PC multi-card reader, or any other device I can think of (although most other devices did have covers on them). And as well as having had no concerns with regards to dust, neither have I had any kind of dust-related malfunction! Is there even such a thing?

I personally plan to keep one of these in mine. They keep the dust out. ;)

I can't find it, and it may not have been official, but one of the developers- i dont think it was craig, maybe mweston or Squidge or something? said that it would be pointless and raise the costs of producing it, so that would be another sharp lean towards "no"

Could have been this.
Or possibly this, I'm not sure about this one.

I know I've replied "no" to someone's question previously - I could find that post but not the link that made me so certain. It's entirely possible that things have changed in the months in between - though I doubt it.

a reply to all the people saying theyll use an sd card to block dust;

my phone has a card in it, and the rubber cover is permanently closed. however if i pull the cover open i can see that the crevice and the card are covered in a large amount of dust. without a cover, im pretty sure it would be caked in the stuff and a lot would have found its way inside the phone itself.

i'll find something to blank off the slot, even when there is a card in it - since pandora will spend most of its life in one of my pockets just like my phone does presently.

Like a DS, if you have something in there already, then crap wont get into it unless you are excessively stupid.

IF the SD slots are as snug as the card slot in the DS!

However even if the fit is not as snug I too think rubber stoppers are only any good if you are going to throw your hardware in a bag full of dust, broken crisps, bread crumbs and biscuits.

Answer: Just get a carry case for your pandora or carry it around in a sock.

My pocket lint is sentient, so it will get into the pandora somehow. I'm thinking that some quality time with an air duster once a month will solve that. I certainly never had a problem with the GP2x slots in that way.

The thing I'm more worried about is the cards popping out. If they are of the click-in/click-out variety then they can easily come out in a pocket. My GP2X does that all the time, but it's not usually turned on in my pocket, so less of an issue. I suspect I may be using the electrical tape method if there is nothing else to stop that.
