Another thing to make note of is if your router is wireless N 300 enabled (40mhz channel width) you don't want to be using channel 6. Using 40mhz width will make you stretch outside of the 3 main channels (1, 6, 11), setting channel 6 on 20mhz width normally spans channels 4 through 8), but with 40mhz width you spread even further - using channel 6 will put you across all 3 channels and wide open for interference. It's best to use something like channel 4 or 8 for 40mhz width so you are only in 2 of the 3 common channels rather than all 3.
