Why Do Psp/ds Games Cost So Much

Ok...Why would some people pay over 200 for an imported psp or a ds when the games are so expencive (in the UK) I know all about the pecs of the PSP and the DS but the gp32 you can download most of the games and apps from the net e.t.c. I be intrested to know from other user of the gp32 would they like to pay over 30 pounds or $40 + for games on the move which a batterie life of about 4 hours and game play which is no better than the gp32 in fact I think the zx spectrum emulator has better games for game play, so does if fall on grahics and sound and having the lastest gadit ? as the gp32 can play moives and it can play mp3`s like the psp and it so much better than the ds as it can not play films or mp3

let me know

Hehe. nice question, you're right. Here in the Netherlands are ds games over €50! I think they do it, because ppl must buy games, when do don't. They can not play games. And alsoo because the Ds is famous, everyone knows it, when I aks someone about the Gamepark: Ermmm. :p

you can't even TRY to compare games you download for free on your GP to commercial games that are available for PSP and DS. Whooooole different ball game there.

And to say the gameplay is 'no better than the GP32'... heh... have you ever really sat and played a DS or PSP?? TOTALLY different ballpark...

There are very few games on the GP that are anywhere near good enough to truly be compared to commercial DS and PSP games... I mean of course it's a matter of oppinion but I"m sure 90% of people would agree the commercial games (except for the crappy ones) are far superior to any commercial or homebrew GP game out there. With the emulators things do move more to the GP's favor but still... no comparison. And anyways you're comparing (mostly illegal) roms you've downloaded for free but SHOULD have payed for and at one time all of those genesis, NES, PC Engine, etc. games were also $40-50... but now they are old.

In the case of the PSP, especially, the games are so close to the level of current home console games in almost every respect, which is why they can sell them for the same price as home console games... but even with the PSP most games are for $40 as opposed to $50 for home console games... there are a few $50 games but the majority are $40. DS games are $30 which is about the same price GBA games go for about half the time... and obviously the DS games are technically far superior. In either case I definately feel with almost every DS and PSP game I've bought so far, that I had gotten my moneys worth.

Hm lots of reasons here's some main ones. Games are expensive to make, everyone needs to make a profit etc etc. Still games fall down in price every year. Games here were always $100 now they're $80 and count around 3% inflation every year into that and games are getting cheaper yearly.

A quick scan around ebay and you would see that the prices of the psp and ds have dropped dramatically (sp?) and the games are about the same price as other new games that are released (around £30) for other systems.

The reason games are more expensive on psp and ds is because a group of people have just had to sit down and code for the past year or so (and getting paid for it) and they are new but with gp32 all games were coded by people sat at home doing it for fun and not being paid and when you use an emulator you are 9 times out of 10 using a rom that you d/l off the inet for free which 10 years ago would have cost the same price as new games now.

Comparing the GP32 to the psp and ds is like comparing video to dvd or tape to cd - it all comes down to personal preference! :) If you like retro gaming and a cheap source of games go for a gp32 but if you want great graphics go for the psp or ds. :D

Thats just my 2pence :p

ps. if bast reads this thanks for psp still works like a dream (any chance of sending some games over please? i will pay :D )

I don't understand why the GP32 isn't more popular (I guess it's a marketing thing) but I'd rather have a GP32 anyday rather than a PSP or Nintendo DS or any other handheld come to think of it. Ok, games (or should I say graphics) for these handhelds are nice but don't you just think the old style games (i.e arcade) are more fun (I'm showing my age here :) ).

:)

I have my GP32 already, and since I don`t have to buy anything for it, I buy a game for my DS :D

LOL yeah good point since you don't really PAY for any games for the GP32 then why even bother complaining that PSP or DS games are 'expensive'? you should just spend the money you WOULD spend on GP games on PSP/DS games instead!

Hmm ok the psp and the ds are better at grahpics and sound e.t.c. and it does all depend on what you like retro or top of the rage ps2/ds gameplay e.t.c. but I belive that ther gp32 give great value for money due to the games emulators and apps you can get. I have not downloaded or purchased commercial games yet for the gp32 but looking at some screen shots around the net ie ( doom quake ) they do`nt seem that bad and the gp32 does support strero sound and can play films and mp3 just like the psp my point i was making was the psp cost nearly double the gp32 and the gp32 has more going for it due to emulaion don`t get me wrong the psp looks a great handheld with ps2 stiye graphics but is this all you need to buy a psp because the grahics look good on the system if i had 200 pounds or so for the psp when it relesed in the uk I would buy the gp32 blu from gbax.com for 155 inc vat becuase i belive it is better value it a shame that gamepack did not officaliy release it here in europe or the uk as I think it would be make a killing here and it would take on the ds and psp but this is just my view

thx for looking
Ian

I guess this console (GP32) really appeals to oldies like myself who grew up with arcades, 2600, spectrum, etc (not the best graphics in the world but the games were fun to play). Youngsters of today, tend to go for Playstation, XBox, Gamecube, etc (nice graphics but the gameplay isn't the same).

:)

I think the point you are all missing is that once upon a time somebody DID pay $50 , £30 for the games we now 'could' download for free ;) . Iif they hadn't have, then they wouldn't be made.

If we don't play and support new consoles/games, then where will retro gaming go? In 20 years time, who will play burnout 10 on the GP32A+122 (?)? So we must continue to buy games. It's our responsibility as gamers.

If the GP32 was released alongside the PSP and the DS, and did well, how long before the lawers closed the rom sites down? I reckon the reason so many people get away with doing something illegal (downloading roms) is cos it's considered such a small deal. That's good, cos with no rom downloads, 70% of the GP fun is gone.

Anyway, go and buy games. My PSP is on its way (i hope!!!). We should live for now, and in the past too!

That's what I think, anyhow :p

No i not kidding... users do buy imports of ebay e.t.c. and pay well over the top but I think the psp will be around the 200 uk pounds mark so the gp32 is still a beter option

Actually I own a GP32 and a PSP. Granted that the PSP is expensive, but it's a very new item, the price will drop. But you cannot compare the GP32 and the PSP. They are both different things. It would be like trying to compare an Amiga to a modern PC. Lets face it, things move on...

For me the PSP is a way of getting my Playstation 2 in my handbag. And the GP32 is there too for all the emulators. I'm afraid The GP32's movie playback is dire compared to the PSP, and the MP3's on the GP32 I found were never 100%, but the GP32 excels in a lot of other ways. I think both the PSP and the GP32 are awesome devices, and have different roles to serve......

Yeah the Movies on the GP32 are great, but nowhere near the quality of the PSP, but the GP32 does it very well. I myself have a few movies converted for the GP32, including “The Emperors New Groove”. I was only making a point. I’m just trying to show how they are two different devices, for two different worlds (So to speak :) )

I agree about the two different devices bit 100%. I got my PSP on the US launch. It is a nice piece of kit (aside from the dodgy Mfg with the dust in the screen and the dead pixel). I turned on my GP32 the other day to see if I still like it and I do. The emus and other stuff make it a worthwhile system to still have. I like both for different things.
