Hey everyone, i dont know much about linux (ive been attached to XP) and when you start the pandora, will it look like DOS, or will it have an actual OS that looks like Ubuntu or something. I am asking this because in the video of what to do with an MK0 board it looks like DOS.

Linux is very modular so you can quite easily make it look like anything. Even if the Pandora did only have CLI at launch, I doubt it would be long before someone makes/ports a GUI for it.

Linux's CLI is far more powerful than DOS...

You guys gotta admit that dos and a command line look the same to the untrained eye, so it's not as dramatic as calling dogs chairs. More like calling.. evil twins... good

or something

I totally want a dog now just so I can name it "Chair"

I agree, to non coders black screens with white letters are completely interchangable, just be glad he didn't call it "basic" or "logo".

Getting back on track, did any of the devs mention when we'd see any of the GUI? I was hoping I'd get to see something of the GUI before preorders start.
good luck on that one :(

Saying that a CLI looks like DOS isn't the worst I've heard. At least it's true, to a certain extent. I mean, If someone said that IceWM looks like WinXP, they wouldn't be far off either, so I think the statements equate.

What I hate is when people see a command line and think I'm looking at the computer's "code," or worse, when the say I shouldn't be looking "inside" the computer. It's like most people think that real code looks like the code in the Matrix or something...

I am used to both, considering I purposely used DOS for a month like 3 years after XP came out :p and I use the terminal in linux

(me using the command line on my laptop at the library)

Librarian comes over.

L: What are you doing?
Me: Using my computer.
L: I think you're doing computer hacking.
Me: What? I'm just using the command line.
L: Stop lying to me. I know you're hacking our computer.
Me: But-
L: Get out of this library.

(For the record, I was editing xorg.conf to make X work again. :p)

...and that's why you set your terminal to black on white in public.
