Hi,

When I woke up my pc screen showed something like this:

L 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99

It does that after showing the Dell bootscreen, and I am not allowed to enter the BIOS or let it boot from cd-rom drive. Does any of you guys know what is wrong??

I need my computer for school, so help would be really appreciated...

Thanks!

Exactly; reinstall your bootloader, I do that from a Debian CD usually .... a fresh copy of LILO on the MBR. You're not allowed to access the BIOS or boot from a CD .. by the machine? Or by your parents or something? :P It'd be funny if they let you install Linux but you can't boot from a CD.

From what I can gather you guys are right, it's usually down to a corrupted MBR (Master Boot Record). You can repair this easily if you have an XP CD, boot to the recovery console and type FIXMBR. This will rewrite the MBR and all should be fine.

A point of reference, I know that this is a linux error, but the MBR on all PCs is the same regardless of the OS, it's simply part of the bootstrap.

Hope you get it fixed,
Clare.

I deleted Linux by using MagicPartition or something. It was recommend by some of the guys here. There is a thread about it I created.

But how to solve this? I tried to recover windows and re-install (using another pc which doesn't work anymore either :S)

What to do?

Thanks!

All was impossible, but Kubuntu is installing @ the moment. After that I'll install windows again. Only the installation disc is stuck in another PC which refuses to go on. :S I think it's just a broken wire and will fix this later.

Thanks anyways!

You'll probably need to boot into the recovery console off you XP installation disk. From there you will need to run fixmbr and fixboot. I forget the exact syntax, but it says somewhere on this page - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058/.
Didn't I already say that, or is there an echo in here :D.

To remove a CD from a PC that is off, you need a metal paper clip. Extend the paper clip so it is straight, and push it into the little manual eject hole which is usually situated next to the drives eject button!

Hope you get it fixed,

If your CD is stuck in a CD-ROM drive. All you have to do to get it out is take a paper clip. Straighten it out. There is a very tiny hole underneath the drive door, could be at the right side bottom. stick the paper clip in that little hole and it should open, free, or release the drive door or tray. ;)

No problem; you're welcome. It seems that there was some kind of fault with your original optical drive -- I'm surprised no one mentioned it before. Glad you got it sorted though :)
