What kind of warrenty does the GP2X have?

Since you can't buy them in stores (atleast in the US) what do you do with your GP2X if it is defective or breaks down shortly after I get it? How do you go about getting a replacement?

In the UK it's covered by the consumer rights act so you're entitled to between 3-6 months of warrenty

GBAX and GP32Z both give 1 year warranty on the GP2X. You probably return the unit to them to get a replacement. Usually there's also a warranty required by law in the country where it's sold. But I'm not sure how that works out if you're not a citizen of that country.

ED (gp2x.de) gives 2 years warranty, but I suppose that's just for germany.

I think the consumer rights in the European Union states that if you buy a product from another EU Member State the laws of the country in which you bought the item apply. More information here: EU consumer rights

Would be nice though if Craigx and EvilDragon could tell us how their warranty will work.

ED gives 2 years warranty since that says the law for electronic things in germany. ED also gives a free reflash service for all gp2x which were bought at his shop (normally the warranty is broken when you do this to your device i think)

Are you sure? The site states "Und das ganze mit 12 Monaten Gewährleistung!". It worries me that it only can be seen on the German version.

I think German consumer rights give 6 months unlimited warranty and 2 years limited warranty for all consumer products. This means that during the first 6 months the dealer will have to prove that you haven't broken the product yourself. After that there's another 18 months where the burden of proof is placed on the buyer instead of the seller.

That's the minimum warranty given by the consumer rights but the seller can also freely extend the warranty period to any amount of time he wishes.

EU countries also have very similiar warranty rules now because of recent EU Directives. Most have an unlimited 6 months warranty with an additional limited warranty which may vary in time.

For UK it's 6 months unlimited and 6 years limited warranty.

Uh...yeah, that's pretty clear isn't it? My point is that only the German version of the page says anything about warranty. The English version does not, which makes it a bit unclear for non german buyers.

After emailing http://gp32z.com I found out that:

-The warranty is for 1 year.
-The warranty covers problems not inflicted by the user.
ex. a screen with 3 or more dead pixels or USB problems would be covered.

If you are in the EU, you always have the rights the seller country has, so if you buy at my gp2x Shop, you have the warranty according the German laws.

Great, just what I wanted to hear. I got my pay check yesterday so I'm going to order soon :)

Edit: I just read on gp2x.de that you're going to offer an alternative carry case. That sounds great. I think I will wait a bit longer then before ordering. Do you have any more info on those cases? I'm curious :)

nice to hear it... my gp32 broke and i imported it from liksang (I'm in germany) and i did not get it fixed cause liksang reffered me to gamepark and they did not react at all...
