What have you bought recently?

Got a used Lenovo Helix 2 I'm playing around with at the moment. It came with the proper thinkpad keyboard base.
It's a bit disapointing that it doesn't have a stylus slot compared to the first model.
And while the core m5 is a lot slower than the first's i7, it doesn't need any fans. Neat little convertible.

Sauce.

It's an arcade cab running RetroPie on a Pi3B, with a 1600x900 LCD monitor. The default install has a pretty good range of games, but I've added PSX and Atari stuff via an external 2TB HDD mounted inside. I love it.

How are the sticks and buttons

Extremely good. The stick has a reasonable travel to it, but not so much that you're yanking it around to get things done. The buttons are very responsive with a satisfying click. All in all, I've very happy with the control set. However, the software side of things needs a little work - it's not a complete MAME/FBA ROM set (well, it is now) and the RetroPie that it comes with needs to be updated but once that's done and all the new ROMs are scraped it's very, very good. The CRT-Pi shader is surprisingly quick and pretty realistic too.

@ZXDunny Now that looks really cool :) Is it hooked up to take coins? I thought briefly of modding my PiCade to do that, but unfortunately it's really too small to be practical.

Yeah, it takes coins via the coin door or the right hand button of the pair on the plate facing the player. Which gets a little weird in console emulation as that's usually the Select button :)

If ED wants a very lucrative side-business, he could market these with a Pyra board inside (with a custom RetroPie/EmulationStation image on board) as I suspect the Pyra board will almost literally wipe the floor with the current Pi3B being employed.

Shops with console like these were everywhere when I was a kid. I had played super mario bros. and contra II many times on those consoles. That feels nostalgic.

Probably a Playchoice 10, which was a NES in an arcade cab basically. Had an extra screen in the marquee for game selection I think. There was the VS system before that which looked a bit plainer, but didn't support any versions of Contra as far as wikipedia reports. It was unlikely to be emulating the arcade version of Super Contra, as that uses a vertical screen as far as I can tell.
