We Are Still Doing The Boards+Population In The Usa, But It Looks Like

So what's the status of the non-case, non-board items needed to assemble the Pandora (screens, speakers, LCD cables, etc etc)? Have they been shipped from Texas (I think we were told they all were all ready and waiting in Texas) to the UK? If not, when will they be shipped?

Given the potential issue with shipping delays and customs problems combined with the terrible luck OP has had so to date it might be an idea to get those shipped from Texas ASAP!

I really don't think it's a good idea for anyone to just step in for a weekend, unless there some really basic simple things they can do. It takes time to learn something new and someone have to teach all the new people. There's also a higher risk of inconsistencies and mistakes the more new people you have. You also want responsible, fast learning and hard working people, some might show up just for the fun or just take up more time then they earn you. There are all kinds of people in this world.

And, apparently, they are all welcome to join Craig and the team in assembling our Pandoras!

I admit it, I'm tempted.

Likewise, although I'd at least need 3 weeks notice ahead of time to schedule the vacation time to head over there.

No, I own the old Village hall. So it will be done there. If anything we think this will speed things up.

Yeah, right. I'm sure everyone here believes this.

They will most probably be shipped together with the populated boards, as we couldn't do anything with them before that anyways.

EvilDragon, I respect your optimism and I think you're a honest person. However, wouldn't it be better to start shipping parts already now? Isn't it more logic to stagger the deliveries?

Sorry not read the thread, but am I to believe that we're back on - people can come and help?
Last time that came up, after a while it was then said it was a comment not something that was meant to be taken too seriously and was not feasible. So now it's feasible, what's changed apart from it not being assembled in the factory?

So what about Tax, shipping costs, and others?

hope it doesn't add more taxes.

and as for me, i would want a special request and it would be to tag the pandora (or at least mine) just as a net pc.
in order to avoid extra tax, since full assembled computers have tax exemption.

Thanks for the clarification ED :).

Given that OP has the opportunity to remove another potential source of delay by shipping the Texas parts to the UK immediately, it seems strange not to take it - especially given the history to date.

But if not all the parts are ready to ship from Texas, there's no point shipping things twice as that usually costs more. Besides, why do we need to get involved in every little decision especially when we only know some of the 'facts' and even those we aren't sure about...

Just seems like we are, gives us a sense of contribution (whether it be true or not) :D
We are told things which is nice, don't mistake that for getting involved in the decisions..... Most that happens is long threads and polls, helps pass the time.

As Na-Noo eloquently said, it helps pass the time :). It's also interesting getting a glimpse of how the project works and the thinking behind some of the decisions. Don't read the comments as a flame/troll - read them instead as curiosity from an interested purchaser. Also by now we've all done to death the usual subjects so the discussion of a concrete aspect of the project (shipping of completed items) is a nice change. :)

Don't worry, I wasn't reading as flame/troll. I know how we have all discussed everything over and over as it gives us something to do - that's why craigix publishes vague posts and twitterings to keep us amused.

I don't know about you, but I'm investigating the potential of harvesting Craig's skin flakes, from the surface of my Pandora, to produce an army of terrifying clones. Can anybody quote me a wholesale price on 100,000 fur hats?

You sent all your materials to the facility for assembly BEFORE you even had an official arrangement for assembly? It was just assumed that all would be affordable? Sorry but that sounds a bit ridiculous. Why would you send all the parts there and assume a contract with no agreement? That would be like sending your car in for service and just assuming you wouldn't be charged an arm or a leg. That was VERY risky. Where are the parts. Do you have them back already? Are there any other assumed arrangements?

Eh? You didn't read the whole thread (or even title), did you?
They will populate the boards and therefore need the parts ;)

We could NEVER populate the boards. All we do is put the finished boards into the finished cases and that's it.
The cases come from China, the finished boards from the facility in Texas.

Yes, I did actually, and if you read my post I never asked about the boards or the components on them. I was referring to the nubs, the buttons, all the remainder of parts that were said to have been sent to the factory for Pandora creation Months ago. Not the Components for board population.
I see now that someone else asked the same thing, however they got an answer, you say they will ship it with the boards. So now back to my original questions. One of which has been answered, all the screens, nubs, "THE PARTS" for the Pandora's are in Texas and have to be shipped back, and you suppose they will ship back with the boards, so do you expect all parts to ship at once when they send you the first 1000 boards? Or will they send only some of the parts? What is their plan for creating the other 3000 boards since they will not be doing that as they build Pandora's anymore? Or we wait until they ship 4000 boards and the parts and all ships together?

Like I said, I just want to make sure the parts get back quick and safe and no more delays will be had due to lost or damaged parts. Assembly by the team is an economically savvy move and I think will ensure greater care in creation. it just seems that there is always something though and while these parts still have to endure transit, more problems could arise. Just imagine if a box of nubs never makes it back overseas or something. Then we'd really see a delay. So that's why I was asking where they were and if the team would tell us when they all arrived safely.

EDIT EDIT: Also ED or CRAIG, do either of you know if anytime you have ever shipped a purchased device to the US (IF YOU HAVE) if there have ever been a customs charge, the customs thread was a long time ago and basically concluded with "No one knows for sure and it may cost as much as XXX which If I remember was around 30% which could be a huge charge so it's be nice to know if you know of a customs charge at all.
Thanks.
