Hi all. I recently put some videos on my gp2x Wiz... The video player from the native firmware gives me a black screen with crackling- the file is fine, so I install m-player, and while the video shows up everything lags. The video is beyond choppy and the audio is just as bad. This leads me to believe I'd need to encode my videos or something like that...So if it helps, the width of my videos is 512 while the height is 384. What do I need to do to get my videos running nice and smoothly? Any help would be met with great appreciation.

Hi Ravens,

I'd recommend to convert your videos with a suitable program. I'm using DVD-Rip and Avidemux (in my case on Linux).
I'm using avi container and xvid codec. You can play around with the settings.
I have an 8GB SD card (and recently another 16 GB) but still I am very sparing with my disc space.
So why wasting it on 512 x 384 resolution? If you just convert it for the WIZ 320 x 240 is enough.
As an example, app. 330 MB movie 29 FPS sound standard mp3 stereo is what I got for a decent 1:15 hrs movie.
That works fine with the standard movie player, never tried m-player.

Thank you very much! Every portable device I've ever used has always just been able to play native resolution, and I did not buy the wiz to play video, but my old Archos pmp died recently and I don't have the cha-ching to get a new one, so I'm working with what I've got.

Also, don't forget the mplayer has the ability to overclock the Wiz. I haven't had any issue playing a DVD-Rip of Date night which was a 640x272 DIVX 5 file at 24FPS, it seemed to play just fine.
