Usb Working !!!! On Gp32linux :)

holly crap
i have to get that mini hdd when gplinux gets beter

this is some of the greatest news ive ever heard for gp32
128mb is so small

I think we really need a gp32linux zone.
Some precisions about usb on gp32linux:
- you need an externel adapter with 5V power supply: a simple hub is not enough
- this adapter can be easily made by electronic hobbyists: I will put schematics on sourceforge's gp32linux
- I also modified 2 resistors inside my gp32, but I don't know if it is important: I need volunteers to test with a genuine gp32
- I also tested with an ethernet adapter: I got access to internet (but I lake a browser ;-))
- I put a web server on my gp32 and you will be able access to it and to download some data from internet: just for test and just this night at http://81.56.203.169 (hope it will work).
- you can put an usb harddrive and use a partition for swap: so you will have no more memory limitation...
- the gp32 gives 3V, so don't use it for usb and don't try some hazardous homemade 3V to 5V adapter without beeing sure of what you are doing: electronic devices are fragile !
- I will try to give you a photo of my gp32 with ethernet device and my adapter.

*passes out*

*wakes up*

WOWWWWWWWWWWWW we need a gp32linux zone please!

holy crap
internet
on gp32

i'm have trouble getting gp linux to work
that link to the arm compiler thing on the the howto file on the gplinux cvs is broken

help i really want to try this out

well it seem to work without the modified resistors
i will make some pics / small tutorial
later today or tomorrow

wouldnt a usb device be too slow as a swap partition ?

dont know, have to test
better than nothing

-----------------------------
so it's time to write/port some MPEG1/VCD players to gpLinux.
*******
cyberic ported mplayer, didnt test it
we still have to solve a sound driver problem

you can use the init there http://www.gp32news.com/gp32linux/USBFILES/initrd
and the kernel : http://www.gp32news.com/gp32linux/USBFILES/zImage

the hub is smaller than the chatboard !!!!
and i saw even smaller ones

with the hub you can connect more devices

yeah but a hub with a usb keyboard ist much bigger in my opinion than just a chatboard ;) does all USB Ethernet adapter work.. i think about buying on, they arent that expensive.. and worth if i can browse the web with the gp32 then :)

well, check google to see what usb ethernet work with linux
i say, wifi is better ;) .We still have to integrate wifi drivers in the kernel.
[ i think prism2 based devcies are cool, like netgear ma111]
you can walk on the streets and check avaible hotspots
[ once we ve got some small 5V battery device to power the hub/devices ]

Wow, this sounds incredibly cool! Imagine how many movies you could take with you!
But I don't get all this external power stuff, is that just for USB devices that are unpowered? If you have a harddrive based mp3 player with a battery, can you use that? Or would you still need some other kind of power?

please...someone can make a step by step tutorial to use gplinux, to make that very cool usb adaptor with 5v power and to make all work good??????'PLEASEEEEEEEE

I second the step by step tutorial idea, cause im lost and dont want to be
also, we NEED a gp32linux forum
and damn I need to get a chatboard
also, if we had the space, couldnt we mount a usb female port IN the gp32 and have it be a hole like the current USB hole?
then we power it and it looks much sexy

~Octavious

damn, all hail linux
