You need to understand, I wasn't at all involved with the Pandora before 2009. From all I can read (and please tell me if I'm wrong) this pending release is the 2nd one, the first one having come out in 2008. I'm assuming that there were many changes from the earlier version to the current version, else all of the design/testing stuff wouldn't have existed, I think, so, is there a listing somewhere, of what exactly is it that changed in the pandora (what did Pandora gain that required all this extra time?). Did it require any changes in the Pandora specifications?

I read about all the work on Pandora 802.11, and while I'm cheered that my Pandora will have functional 802.11, I'm wondering, did the first version have 802.11 capabilities? Lastly, what's the right way to refer to the first Pandora version, and if I want to refer to the second version (as opposed to the 1st version) what do I call the 2nd version?

Thanks to everyone, I'm really anxious to get it in my hands!

The Pandora never came out in 2008 and the one everyone is talking about now is the same Pandora that we were hoping for back then. Some things have changed, but not a great deal eg it will come with more RAM than originally stated. So, you didn't miss the first version of the Pandora - we're all still waiting for it.

No, this is the first production batch. There have been some prototypes, but that's it. The preorders for the upcoming batch started in 2008, and we are all still waiting patiently (well, more or less) :)

This is the first one. They took pre-orders back in 2008 to fund the production, and then bad stuff happened that caused a never ending string of delays.
So, since there wasn't a previous one, there haven't technically been any changes :D
Realistically, they did make a couple changes during development: they changed the WiFi module for one which has both WiFi and Bluetooth, and they increased the RAM from 128 to 256. Both of these changes are in the current edition, which is the one that everyone who paid for will get.
The devs had said many times that the only changes that will happen between this and subsequent batches are possible bug fixes (which there aren't any, because Pandora is perfect!)
When they do start looking at making radical changes, that will be time for a new console tentatively named "Pandora 2", but that won't be for a few years yet.

Thanks, folks. Reading all of the earlier posts (which all seem to be missing dates, how odd?) gives one that very strong impression that this is version 2. Well, I'm not going to take it any farther, but at least (as last) I understand a lot more.

I think your getting the revision and batch mixed up. There has been several revisions of the Pandora, but none have been released to the public yet and only the latest entered mass production. The others were just prototypes and developer units.

When I first joined the forum I had a thread titled changes in which I asked the same question. I also had a very strong impression that when you could either wait for the second batch coming out later this year or just order from the previous batch (leftovers) as they called them on the main site. I believe this should be added into the FAQ before more threads like this arise.
