Hi everyone.

It seems I've developed a bit of an obsession with people's 100-favourite-videogame lists. Really. In the past month of web-scouring, I've gathered around thirty different ones, and I keep going on at people I know to produce their own lists - even those who've not had a lot of experience with them, and those who don't even LIKE them. It's getting really bad. It's gotten so bad I've gotten to asking forumites for their lists too. And since this is the forum that I'm on the most, it's the forum where I'm starting. Could anyone PLEASE post their lists? I know you all have them, it's obvious (well, anyone who seems to collect gaming machines must do, which seems like a lot of people here). You don't even have to post them directly here, you could just PM them to me. If you want. Anyway, here's mine. Last revised on Saturday.

Feel free to comment on all that (such is the point of a forum), and there's no pressure, it'd just be nice to have a bit more for the collection. I think the list that EDGE did is the worst one in the whole world ever.
Thanking you all very muchly.

I can't be bothered doing a crazy list like yours, but I'll pull a quick on off the top of my head.

My Top Five Video Game Franchises:

5. Metal Gear Solid
4. Zelda
3. God of War
2. Mario
1. Grand Theft Auto

Quick and dirty.

Oh Mr. DCGM, whilst I appreciate your quickness (and indeed, your dirtiness), you and Darkman were the ones I was expecting/hoping for the most from...

That's the problem with obsessions, you tend to rely on people a lot more, and get hurt even more when you find you can't rely on them

Well I appreciate that you value my opinion. To be completely honest, though, I'm much more of a collector than an actual gamer. I know my username implies otherwise :)P ), but I really don't play as much as I should. I don't think I'd be able to pull out a list of my top 50 games and give each a somewhat accurate spot on the list...

I'll try to compile one in the next day or two, but it won't have many games pre-NES on it. I'm just too young to get into the older stuff (plus the lack of time/patience and money. Well, mostly that...)

If you could think of a list based on hardware, I could certainly give my opinion in that sense. Top 100 games is really rough, though.

Man, this is crazy... I mean, I love video games, I play them all the time, I collect handhelds and have a half-dozen consoles attached to various TVs around the house at any given time, but listing my top 100 games? in order of preference?!? I wouldn't even know where to begin...

Just sitting down and trying to decide what my TOP FIVE games would be gives me a headache...

Yeah, it is hard to think up a list, but it is possible. Firstly I listed every system I've ever played on, then under each system, listed as many games that I could think of that I'd enjoyed on that system. This left me with a shortlist (of sorts) of exactly 281 games.

From this list, I eliminated any that I'd played once and enjoyed, but wouldn't find myself likely to play again. I also eliminated any that I'd originally only played because I felt I HAD to (ie. Mario 64, Resident Evil games, Zelda games, Final Fantasy VII). Then, I'd read over all the games, and any that I'd read the title of and not get an immediate image in my head, they were gone too. This left around 150 games.

After this, it was a case of deciding what was my all-time favourite game ever (Gunstar Heroes), and going from there. Sonic 2 was the first MegaDrive game I ever got and I pretty much know it backwards, so that had to go there, and Little Big Adventure is a game that I find myself going back to over and over again, even though I've finished it over a dozen times. After these three it was just choosing which games I liked more than any others, and going down the list until I'd gotten up to 100. This end process took a couple of hours, but the original shortlist I'd built up since mid-January.

That's the extent of the obsession y'see. VG101, the OPCFG and Flying Omelette have all done good, interesting lists, and I've got so many more I'm not even sure where most of them came from originally. If no-one can do a Top 100 list, a Top 20 or more will do me just fine

MY favorite games in no particular order:
Final Fantasy 1-7
Chrono Trigger
Mario Kart
All the SUper Mario games
All the 2D sonic games
F-Zero
Tetris, 2, Attack
Breath of fire
Reveira: The promised land
Destruction Derby 64
Bomberman
Brain Age
Halo
Goldeneye
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Gran Turisimo
Advance Wars

I seriously don't see how someone could come up with a list like this for the following reasons:

- You would need to have played every console games every to fully decide on a list of your best games
- No one has that much money to even do that first part

I know I certainly haven't played enough games to even warrant a top 50 favourite games list, in that I have played more than 50 games but not enough of them have been good enough to make a list of them.

Ah, but you miss the point entirely here. My list is not what I think is THE BEST games ever, it is a list of MY FAVOURITE games ever. Hence the lack of Doom, Street Fighter II, Tetris, Elite and all the others that'd justifiably belong on a list of THE BEST games ever. Lists of favourite games are what I'm interested in, they're a lot more personal. Hence the large amount of Castlevania, Sonic and Treasure games on my list.

Kay?

Thank you Mr. Chaos Engineer! It's a start at least, but yes, this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Preferably longer, but yeah, this is the sort of thing I'm after. Cheers :)

Okay, I'll bite. Limiting to 100 is extremely difficult. I could easily do a top 500, but this will have to do.

Edit: fine, it's in numerical order now... but really, the order of any game from position 10 to 70 could be changed around.

You....alphabetized them?
A little thing called a spreadsheet. A numerical rank borders on meaningless for me.

Thank you Mr. GunPei2X, that's the kind of thing I'm after. I mean, obviously it'd be better if it wasn't alphabetized, but it's a start. Nice choices with Typing of the Dead, Toki and Zombies Ate My Neighbors, they were in my original shortlist...

I could've been really mean and asked people to do a top 365 - my original intention, which would allow for playing one game a day for a whole year. Thinking that there might have to be some list-fiddling involved so as to be able to play James Pond II: Robocod on Xmas Day and a Castlevania of some sort at Halloween.

Okay, just for you, 'tis done (original post edited)...

I concocted a top 50 list. I just think attempting to number them would be futile; I agree with what gunpei says about them mostly being changed around. So I'll save myself the torment of chosing one excellent game over another, and just list them.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES)

Super Mario World: Yoshi’s Island (SNES)
Metroid (NES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)

And the extra credit to all, yoho!

Mr. DCGM, I know you couldn't do a full list, but could I just ask if you meant for Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario Galaxy to be your Number One (of sorts)?
