I wan't to close an account which has a balance of zero. Also known as nothing, zilch, none, nada, etc..

Do you think my bank understood my request? No, of course they didn't.

My request:
I would like to close account [removed], which has a balance of zero. (£0.00).

There reply:
To close your [removed] account you can send a postal withdrawal request. Please confirm whether you would prefer us to send you a cheque or transfer the balance into another [removed] account. If you would like a cheque, please let us know the payee name for this.

I think I'm going to do it, just to see if they really send me a cheque for £0.00 :)

Here's some ideas for you ...

Get the cheque, frame it and keep it for conversation

Add a 1 and try to cash it.

Post it back to them asking them not to waste money that should be payable as interest

Don't close the account, but keep an eye on it as the bank may make a mistake and credit a couple of million to it

Years ago when I was on the dole they made a mistake and to make amends sent me a cheque for 13p. Well you can imagine how keen I was to spend the time and 50p bus fair to go cash that one ;)

Reminds me of when my dad applied for his state pension. They told him that their was a gap in his contributions between when he worked and when he was signed off on incapicity benefit due to health reasons. They told him he wouldn't receive the maximum amount unless he paid the difference.
£1.50.
He sent them a cheque and everything was fine.
I know they have to set bounderies but really for £1.50 it's a bit petty.

Okay, banks!

My current account is with the halifax. Since 13 months I've been working in Germany. Rang them up, told them that my wages wouldn't be going into the account, could I keep my overdfaft (I am so useless at remembering to stay in credit). They said sorta fine. Overdraft expired in July, asked for an extension, wasn't granted. Fine I said, as I have a bit of spare euros in my Deutsche Bank account, but could they be patient until I got back to Germany.

Got back to Germany, put a £3000 into the Halifax. Then got my redirected post. In the 10 days I'd been away, they had charged me over £350 in charges!!! Plus served a default notice, and sent a letter saying they were seeking a court order to take my properties from my house, and how much they would be worth to them!!!!!

One very angry phone call saw me speak to one of the managers of the telephone banking service, charges taken off, overdraft extended, apology accepted.

But that's the LAST time I go overdrawn with them again!!!!

The results of my complaint to Barclays bank should arrive tommorow in the post. A petrol station till refused my £300 in credit visa card for no reason at all at 2am on a monday morning leaving me stuck there.

They couldn't give me a valid reason as to why this had happened so they filed it as a major complaint and are investigating. The Taxi fare to get home and then back to my car the next day was £60 in total so I at least expect that back.

Knowing banks it'll be in music vouchers.
