Tried to stick to 3 games per platform, one "various" (could be a duplicate of one of the two other genre), one platformer and one rpg.Of course, those games are the one I played back then (or could have)!

NES:

  • Kirby
  • Super Mario 3 - But since it's an obvious choice Duck Tales
  • Zelda - Once again, but I had difficulties to find an alternative so, Solstice great adventure/puzzle game

MD:

  • Lion King
  • Sonic series - But since it's an obvious choice Rystar
  • I never played any RPG on the MD but from what I know, I would say Phantasy Star series the other option was Starflight that is not a RPG :p

SNES:

  • F-zero - if I could have read japanese, it would have been Bahamut Lagoon
  • Super Mario World
  • Secret of Evermore

PSX:

  • CastleVania SotN
  • Rayman
  • Koudelka

From there I'm going to break the actively break my own rule

ARRR

Amiga :

  • Dune I & II :D
  • Syndicate
  • Cannon Fodder
  • Ishar I & II
  • Monkey Island series

PC okay, that platform is a bit special:

  • Total Annihilation
  • Wing Commander series (including Privateer of course)
  • Freespace I & II
  • Diablo II
  • Sam & Max
  • Myst

Master of Orion 2, Civilization IV.

Alpha Centauri is one of my favourites as well (although I am a bit biased on that because it has native Linux version :) )

  • Planescape: Torment (PC)
  • Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (PC)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

God Hand on the PS2. I have spent more time in academic papers and serious video game conversation on this one game than any other. The self-awareness, the ridiculousness, every ounce of attention paid to atmosphere, the message about (and celebration of) violence, all of it adds up to one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time.

PC:

Microsoft Pinball Arcade

NES:

Megaman 1-3

Snes:

Earthbound

N64:

Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo-Tooie

Donkey Kong 64

GBA:

Mother 3

Half life 2 never played the first one just barely have time to play so only as far as when he reclaims his crowbar .

True classic's list isn't complete without Delta on the c64, just sit back and let that soundtrack take you into another world, haunting and brilliant for its time and one of the few games i could complete 34 levels all in one load.
