This could be one to watch

I was vaguely interested in PineTime, but this one has an e-ink screen (although it doesn't have the heart-rate monitor)...

I like the product comparison at the end - most informative!
Does anyone know whether PineTime plans/is able to OS the HW?

Just drink a few cans of Red Bull, you won't need to use a heart rate monitor.
Not sure I even need a "smart" watch either really...

Reminds me of a lecturer at a university (before smart watches), when asking when his students were late "Why don't you wear a watch?" They replied "What's the point? It only does one thing!"

I bought one a couple of years back and only used it once or twice. Luckily I only paid around £5 for it.

"Why don't you wear a watch?"

Because then we wouldn't have an excuse for turning up to your lectures late and we'd have to put up with you for longer.

My "story" came from this...

I'm not convinced about the watch strap running through the PCB in that watchy thing. Seems almost designed to snap as soon as you put it on your arm, and I'm honestly sure what kind of warrantee you get through crowd supplied things.

I've been ogling this one for a while, but forgot about it because you usually need a credit card for those crowdfunders. Turns out there is a form to apply for a different payment method. That's a bit clunky and I bet not guaranteed to go through, but better than no chance at all. I just don't get credit cards. Guess you'd want one for traveling?

Nevermind, there are a few newish videos now from different youtubers, gonna have a look. Thanks for the reminder.

@levi wouldn't such a small surface area, multiple layers thick, be really strong?
And are you that ripped to expect such overwhelming forces on the strap? :D

PineTime is cheaper and I am wondering if that watch will not have a larger community and more apps developed. At least they are a lot further in development. I only use my current watch as a count-down timer during sports and as pomodoro timer. Would be interested in one of both if they have a count-down timer but with slightly more advanced pomodoro features.

I've never noticed multilayer boards being any less fragile than single or double layer boards, the other way around if anything as under load the layers can slip and they're each so thin they can snap easily, although perhaps being individually so thin they can bend further before snapping. I'm not sure you want your strap axle to bend either though really.

Guess I'll get both, double time!

The PineTime looks great too, and it's somewhat water- and dust-proof. In the pictures the resolution looks quite a bit lower though. That might be a deal-breaker for me.

Screen from Watchy is probably its best feature and wifi might be nice. Also checked banglejs - most features, most apps, but it is very thick and 4 times the price of the PineTime. It has a pomodoro app though.

Probably skip Watchy and banglejs, (no need for double time ;)) and wait until PineTime has a pomodoro app.
