That's hardware RAID. No drivers needed. Should show up as 1 physical drive.

I've been considering getting one of those but don't really have an application for one - yet. Maybe that will change with the Pyra. Pyra file server? Hmm...

I've also wondered if they can be daisy chained. I.e. get 6 of them. Connect 5 to 5 drives each. Connect 1 to the other 5 controllers. With 25 4TB drives that's a 100TB array theoretically appearing as a single drive to the OS.

It would be silly slow compared to a properly set up server, but if it's just light file storage and retrieval tasks - that's a lot of space.

So - back to my original claim. The exceptions have been external solutions which is outside bounds for this one and my bad mental math. 1408GB it is, so far, then.

I'm pretty sure you can daisy-chain hardware-raid-controllers, as long as they have standard SATA out. But when you just use the 100TB in your example then speed would be bad. You could probably set up 5 of them to just use all of the space, and the one connecting them to do a combination striping and duplication, but then you don't get a 100TB.

Anyways, better set up a proper server, I think.

My pocket cares. I can't put a standard USB stick in the back of a Pyra and shove it in my pants pocket. That is the point of having the storage be -internal- (or nearly so in the case of the USB to microSD adapters).

Anyone can connect the thing to theoretically infinite storage when it's sitting on a desk using DAS and NAS external alternatives.

I wasn't talking about the Pandora/Pyra. Just as a product, that's the first 1TB stick I come across. 
 
1 TB of storage with SD cards going to cost a lot of money, so it's better to use some external devices and smaller capacity cards at the moment. When 512 GB SD cards are now on sale, 256 GB cards has quite a reduced price, but still is not cheap.
 
Samsung's newest microSD cards are now available with 256GB capacity. The last time I updated this was in an off-topic thread So, updating this.

The Pyra is rapidly approaching 2TB on the go local-on-device storage capacity.

You might be able to cram the PCB of a Samsung 850 Evo into the battery bay (maybe after cutting a hole into the wall in the case that separates the battery compartment from the stylus).
If you then also manage to wire it up to the eSATA lanes, you can extend your "internal storage" by another 4TB. You'd lose the mobile functionality of course, and it would be ridiculously expensive, but who cares if it serves to brag with "internal storage". ;)
 
I just picked up 2x transcend uhs 3 (60 MB/s write) 256GB SD cards for about $100 each.

The UHS 1 cards I have are irritating me with massive speed fluctuations when torrenting.

Haven't tested them yet, but hopefully they work well, and I'll probably swap them over to the Pyra when I get it
