Steam OS on Pyra (imagining for fun)

Lets pretend that The Pyra had the hardware to run Steam OS. What games would you play from Steam?

I would try out 7 Days 2 Die with the analog sticks and Europa Universalis IV with the touch screen and keyboard controls.

I don't really see the point of steam on pyra, but steamOS on cheap ARM key for local streaming is my dream...

I've been using my Pandora to fix my gaming needs for too long now - I'm not really sure what's new on PCs these days.  Most things I have come across seem to come and go far more quickly than the PC games of my youth did - we played Worms 2 and Micro Machines for almost five years after they came out.  I guess Minecraft has hung around for a while now, though I was never that interested in that sort of game.

I tend to ignore the hype so that when something does come to the Pandora some dozen years down the line, it's new to me!

I guess recently I've been hearing about Sunless Sea and I'd like to give that a go if I ever got a box that count run it well.  I'd probably prefer to get that from GOG rather than Steam though fwiw.

No need to post this in Pyra General as that's for "serious" stuff.
Not that I'm really bothered, but how is this thread less "serious" than this one?
That thread is a genuine question where as this says "Wow. Keep dreaming"
<_<

Thats not what I am saying at all. If I were to say "Is it possible to run on Pyra" then I would be criticized heavily and called a noob which the Pyra might not be for. So instead I left it as an open ended question to spark discussion about the Steam OS.

Can't win in this community -_-

It's a problem when surrounded by a bunch of intellectuals that insist on being the most right.

Also... did you see I actually can run the linux version of Steam (ie SteamOS minus the dedicated OS) on the Pyra hardware... with slow x86 emulation mind you. I didn't dare use the "big mode" as 3D acceleration isn't working yet.

EDIT: On the original topic, I'm a big Borderlands fan, I'd play the hell out of it on the Pyra if streaming was working properly.

I understand your frustration but you should understand that it's not a serious discussion (even you admitted it by putting the words "let's pretend" in the first sentence. Some people here are trying to help configure the Pyra OS so that it works nicely and little topics like this appear and is quite disruptive.

Nothing personal, it still fits in the theme of the forum but is definitely Off-Topic Discussion.

Anyway my contribution to the topic: I would love to play Borderlands like Trashy, GTA IV, Cities Skylines and Brothers: A tale of two sons (if only we could convince the authors to port it to the Pandora / Pyra as it's the game that would use both nubs!

That is pretty exciting to hear. If I can play some few low spec games from Paradox I would be set lol =P. If you happen to get it to run a little smooth could you perhaps create a noob guide for installing?

I would spend up to a grand for the best Pyra and that sort of set up. There is a "Steamboy" I brought up somewhere on the forums that I am thinking about buying. But the Pyra would surely beat it for gaming.

Low spec enough for early pentiums? You can see the ballpark specs of the games that could be played on the device itself from the dosbox and exagear performance we have been seeing.

EDIT: Point being since those steam games are compiled for x86 and Pyra will have an arm processor, there's some overhead to consider.

I'm afraid even with 3D acceleration, streaming on steam may still be sluggish... I still hope that won't be the case.

So with old games like age of empires off of steam? Is it the incompatibility thats the problem with switching x86 for Arm or is it just the processing power too much?

x86 and ARM are two different processor technologies, emulating an X86 processer on ARM and vise versa has a lot of overhead. I'm using a commercial product called Exagear Desktop which seems to have better performance than other solutions out there. I'm actually quite surprised with what I could get running on it.  FYI Exagear Desktop is an X86 emulator provides an install of X86 Linux (Ubuntu 12.04) and allows you to run x86 Linux programs on an ARM device. This makes it so that Wine works allowing Windows programs to run as well.

I'd say Age of Empires would run fairly well seeing how Diablo 2 runs pretty good, better than my Pentium 166Mhz at the time for sure.. I made a video of that.
