Hey all...
I'm on the fence about buying one of these.
How are the NES, TG16 (PCE), Genesis, and Gameboy emulators?
I have a PSP with all its emu glory, but would much rather have a GP2X.

NES no one has written an ASM core for yet... all the games I've tried are playable, but go at around 80-90% speed.

Genesis is near perfect... some water effects from games are missing (ie Sonic 2/3) but I got over it pretty fast

People have been having great success with PC-Engine, but I haven't tried it myself...

Haven't tried much Gameboy, but IIRC GB/GBC work well, though GBA hasn't really had much done at this point.

Why would NES need an assembly core? I would think the gp2x would be fast enough, hell .. the psp is fast enough at 222mhz =/

I've tried a few PCE games and they work extremely well.
Not really tried gameboy..
NES seems ok only really played a few mario games on it.
squidgesnes is getting better very quickly.
Waiting for a new memory card to try out the PSX emulator. That looks quite interesting.
Mame is excellent once you've got the roms sorted out for the correct version.
Coleco works nicely in gp2xmess, every game i tried worked fine.

A question back to you. How well is the Amiga emulator working on PSP? This would be a reason for me to buy a PSP. Or does anybody know anything about a forthcoming Amiga emulator for GP2X. I want to play Chaos Engine, the Shadow of the Beast trilogy etc.

You can probably play Chaos Engine and SOTB on the ST (Castaway emu) or Megadrive (DrMD emu) already.

I know they're not as pretty, but they're here already, and I'm sure the gameplay's the same. For me, the only good things about SOTB when it came out on the Amiga were the jaw-dropping graphics, however.

You can forget Shadow of the Beast on the Atari ST, it is just crap.

The Megadrive versions of Beast 1 and 2 are ok, but grahpics and sound are faaar better on the Amiga, and Beast 3 just does not exist on other machines. Same is true for Chaos Engine 2, the only format is Amiga.

...and I want the real thing, what I played when I was a kid.

Fair enough. I found Chaos Engine 2 a bit disappointing when I first played it... I had more fun in co-operative mode with the original. I don't think we're going to get a full-speed Amiga emu any time soon, unless someone's been quietly working on it. Squidge looked at porting EUAE I think, but appeared disappointed with the frame rate he was getting from it. He then looked at Fellow, but there's a fair amount of assembler to translate for that...

I'm sure it will happen, but not immediately.

Thanks for the interesting info.

I agree, Chaos Engine 1 is better than its sequel.

Back on topic, I have found no problems with the NES emulator so far (but that's only me).
The Gameboy emulators are alright but the sound is a bit fuzzy.
The SNES is coming long nicely, but it will be a while before it's (near-)perfect, and fast.
